You can obviously use each type for the different use, but you won't get as good of an experience as compared to using each product for its intended use.

So you really can't say that size is better than resolution or that higher resolution is always going to be more desirable than screen size. Each has its positives and negatives and suit certain uses. It all depends what you are using it for!
True, but he said "I'm considering it as a do all solution (IE) Comput[e]r Monitor HDTV Monitor" and it seems like he will be using it for his computer. Most likely on his desk in front of him.

If that is the case, there is not really anything that will do both great. A 37" HDTV (even at 1920x1080) sitting right in front of your face is not going to be very sharp and be hard on your eyes. If that is the case, you would be better off with a good 22" or 24" computer LCD. I guess it all depends on what your PRIMARY use is going to be. If it is mostly going to be sitting on the desk in front of you, a large computer monitor would be better. If it is going to be on a stand in the corner of the room, then that HDTV would work.

Thats what I said get a 24" He could use it for consoles, and watching TV if he has a cable box in his room or has a TV tuner. And he can still use it for every day computing and gaming. I find my 22" tiny >_<

Hi All,

Here's the juice, my plan is to use it primarily to watch TV. However, as It'll be connected to my PC running Windows Media Center, as I plan on recording select Movies to the hard drive. I'll also give Gaming a go on it as well. The TV/Monitor will be on a stand, not my desk. Although I've seen some folks use it as a desktop monitor, for me it would be total overkill.

How far away is the screen going to be from you?

If you will be using it mostly as a TV then yea, it will work.

I use my Samsung 22" 226BW for watching tv/anime and i sit on my chair or bed 5ft+ away and i see everything fine :) Even the tiny subs!

Hi All,

I'd say maybe 10 to 12 feet give or take. I guess I gave the impression that this was going to be my primary desktop Monitor. Sorry for that. I do appreciate the fact that you Guys are thoughtful to point out that it wouldn't be the best solution.

Hi All,

At first I was looking at 24" Monitors. Then I started hearing about the Westy. I have been looking at LCD TV's for quite some time. However, the cost was always keeping me from pulling the trigger. The Westy seemed to offer the most cost effective solution. It's a true Hi Definition Monitor. I'm talking 1080p, no upscaling from 720i. In addition, it can serve as a gaming monitor as well.

Yeah, that 37" Westy sounds like it would be a great choice for what you are looking to use it for. The thing I really like about it (besides the decent price) is the inclusion of computer inputs like DVI and VGA. It makes that a very versatile display, prettymuch perfect for your situation.
