Wish I could do a system restore... but there doesn't seem to be one available (???)

I will try to reinstall the USB 2.0 drivers from the motherboard as you suggested. However, do you mean physically remove them from the device manager?

Yes. Remove them then reboot. Windows will likely want to find new hardware and install. That is when you install your downloaded drivers.

No, I did what you suggested... and got the original "good" hd back... with 1 UB Mass Storage Device listed in Device Manager.... but nothing from the other two

I'm afraid that this may be my only solution...

Edit: I think the light not going on suggests that (as the author says) the power or the USB on these 2 "bad" devices may be the issue

Yeah, I agree. Just sort of sucks. I did read plenty of Google when things weren't going well, however, never caught that one. May as well give it a try. The last ditch I was going to suggest was removing the actual HDD and try it in another or the same machine on a SATA port powered by a SATA power connector.

That will explain things once and for all. Let us know what the heck happens.
