IS this after booting up the OS? right now, my problem is just getting anything but an ERROR message.

Could it be my mobo thats broken?
No, that's before being in the OS.
Blue screen installation part.

He said it didn't make it to the blue screen. As I said, it's got to be the media.

Didn't see that post. Not my fault if he has a copy there too. =|

Try different media, different cable then different cd-rom would be the logical way to do it.
Since you already tried 2 different optical drives, go for the media.

I'm not sure what you meant in your second sentence. Could you please disambiguate that?

hmm... It never even crossed my mind to check the cables. Good thinking! :thumleft:

Justin:
Another thing I'd try is hooking up the IDE cable to a different IDE connector. Perhaps the one you were using went bad.

Haha my bad, I just meant "you shouldn't have to check for good media with an original of Windows 2K".
I've seen pretty fubar'ed versions available on the net, some of those that weren't bootable.

yeah, lets steer clear of the stolen/bootlegged/pirated software stuff.
Justin this is a tough one to diagnose. First, I'd borrow a copy of XP or make a Linux boot disk and see if they might work....then you'd know it was the media....if that fails, download the tool disk from your HDD maker and check the disk.....something may be wrong with the boot sector. Next I'd reset everything on the motherboard to default, you might have some setting in there wrong or something
