I've only seen two LCDs ever with stuck pixels, once at an Internet Cafe and on my dad's laptop..

I don't think its a big problem with LCDs really, manufacturing processes for them are getting better and better

I'm personally waiting for SED...

Check out all of the reviews before buying. I just scanned, there's a bunch of people that aren;t exactly satisfied.

We've owned one Viewsonic LCD; FWIW, I wouldn't buy one again unless the sale was really good. I see they make them with the plugs that pull out; ours didn't, and had a loose connection. I finally got tired of it and packed it up, replaced my son's monitor with a Sony refurb w/ Xbrite technology and gave it to my daughter. I'll keep the Viewsonic in case I quickly need to use a monitor and all of our Sony's are in use (2 connections each).

We own 3 Sony's with Xbrite, all different styles - mine is a SDM-HS74P - 17 inch
Son's - SDM-HS75P - 17 inch - still available
Hubby - SDM-HS94P - 19 inch

Mine was the most expensive. I found hubby's refurbished at Sony much cheaper. My son's was also a refurb, bought at Amazon. Son's was bad, the DVI didn't work. I exchanged it with Sony ($50) and haven't had a problem with it. The picture quality is excellent; it's the only reason I considered spending as much as I did. Had my old CRT not gone bad, I would have waited to buy a refurb for myself also.

I also considered buying a shuttle like this, but there were no reviews on it; didn't want to take a chance.

I like Viewsonic monitors...But...

...you have to watch the model designations when buying one. (VX922,VG800, etc)

VQ = below the value line, stay away
VA = value models, cheap but usually missing a digital input and only 1 year warranty.
VG = graphics, not the best but a good starting point
VP = pro, better than VG but not the best
VX = top of the line for Viewsonic

I have one in the VG line, and had no problems with it.

Response time is measured in milliseconds (ms) and refers to how long it takes pixels to turn from completely white to black and back again. Smaller values represent a faster response time and are more desirable, especially if you will be gaming or viewing video. If the response time is slow, "ghosting" or "trailing" can occur with fast-moving images, where repaints of the screen overlap. A maximum response time should be no more than 25ms for general use, and 17ms is better. Many gamers report no ghosting using LCD monitors with a response time of 16ms or less.
I currently have two 12ms Dell monitors and have never had an issue with ghosting

Taken from Wikipedia.

Ghosting looks like a muted colored contrail behind the moving object.

Ghosting happens when the action in the game is happening faster than the monitor can refresh it. So the image looks blurred while the monitor tries to catch up. This was a huge problem when LCD's were first coming out, but is becoming much less of a problem as LCD's mature. As long as you don't buy the cheapest out there, and you purchase an LCD with a 12ms or below response time, ghosting will rarely be a problem.

My LCD has a 15ms response time, I think, and I've never had a ghosting problem. But it was fairly expensive 2 years ago.

The old 15" LCD I run on has a 30ms response time and ghosting is surprisingly little. I can only imagine how nice it is to use an LCD with less than a 12ms response time.

I got to use a Dell Ultrasharp 24" widescreen LCD a couple times and the thing is BEAUTIFUL. I can tell you with 100% confidence that I would never take a CRT over any high quality LCD like that.
