NewEgg has a BenQ G2400 open box item for about $340 (incl. shipping).

Anyone used this brand before?

BenQ is taiwan OEM company mainly. It originally was a division of Acer b4 "branching off" to become itself. Now with Open box on newegg, the return policy may be spotty and i wouldn't risk it personally.

Thanks for that.
Believe NE return is 15 days. Open Box means all I get is the monitor - no cords, no manual, etc. Unsure if it's worth saving the bucks for that. I've read good things about BenQ, though, and this model, although it is dated now.

I got the Gateway 24" LCD and it has noticeable ghosting under certain circumstances (light colors on dark background or vise-versa). But besides the slight ghosting sometimes, it has an amazing picture, great viewing angle and only slight backlight bleed in the upper right corner. It was way more money than I wanted to spend too, but I just couldn't bring myself to get a 2@" with one of those crappy TN panels with terrible viewing angles. I would rather have slight ghosting here and there than a screen you can only view correctly at just the right angle.

just returned the x241W to Bestbuy because picked up the P241W from staples for 20 dollars more. normally a steal at 359.99 but had a 12% customer appreciation coupon that knocked it down. Was out the door for 344 while i paid like 326 at BB for the X241. HDMI and true 1080P is great.

Got a line on an Acer AL 2416WBSD for $319 through local seller. Does anyone have any experience with Acer monitors?

Also, how do I know whether monitor has "true" 1080P?

I got an Acer 19" widescreen for someone I built a system for and they seem to like it (no dead pixels but no height/tilt adjustments).

Well, first off it has to have at least 1080 vertical rows of pixels. So a 24" LCD usually has a 1920x1200 resolution, making it fully capable of displaying a 1080
HD picture (which has a native resolution of 1920x1080). As for the progressive scan (the "P" in 1080P), that's something I'm not really sure about...

What is the difference between the Acer X-series, the AL-series, and the P-series?

EDIT:
I'll answer myself - looks like AL is the oldest, followed shortly by X, with P the newest (based on dates of fact sheets here:AcerPanAm.com

So seems like P is the newest, although it appears DVI-D and HDMI (w/HDCP) is only available on "selected units". AcerPanAm.com

Have to look very carefully at the specs to see what is inside the box!

The Staples right around the store from me had some in stock, so I just ran out and bought it. I'll take it home and plug it in to see how it works. According to the store I've got 14 days to return it - no "restocking" fees or anything. Only concern I have is that there aren't any adjustments available - height, swivel, etc.

Hope the wifey is OK, but much better to apologize and act contrite when I have it in my hands than to ask permission beforehand!
