sit there with your hand on them longer than humanly normal
that's about how long they are going to be in your hand anyways =P
feel out every difference, and decide which one is more comfortable to you.

Sorry if I'm bumping this.. but I also have the MX510, and I love it..

A lot of people saying MX518 is better than G5, but.. who knows..

i saw the mouse and felt it. Personally, i don't like it. I'm going with the G5. There is this 10 dollar instant rebate, which makes it 10 dollars cheaper than the MX518, so i'm going to buy it.

i believe the 518 is optical tracking and the g5 is laser.. hence the higher dpi.

personally i'd go with the g5, the ability to add or remove weight from it seems like it would give it the edge. (i'm not sure but i don't think the 518 has this capability)

either of the two will be great mice, probably would be the last mouse you ever buy.

also, i have 2 mx500's i've had for years and are great.. but they don't feel as good in my hand as my mx1000, but the mx1000 is a cordless and does some weird things sometimes that can get on your nerves.
