There is no esata port. My motherboard came with an esata bracket and so did the external enclosure that I bought. I'll make sure my next motherboard has one. Thanks.

Typically (but not always) the higher end enthusiast boards come with eSATA built in.. the rest throw in the bracket to cover an expansion card slot at the bottom rear.

Thanks HL and Corsair!

Some do, some don't. I wouldn't go so far as to say just 'higher end' unless thats what you call this. :dong:

Considering the 975X was the high end board at one time, how many P965 boards had eSATA built into the board? Only a rare few. The P35 is more or less an updated P965 chipset and it is not as common to see eSATA built into a P35 which is what both of us have (myself and Kent)...
I am not saying they do not have them, I am just saying it is much less common to see them on "midrange" chipset based boards.

I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal.

Matt's correct, that statement is wicked wrong. While perhaps not quite as common on lower and mid-range motherboards, eSATA is not limited to "only a few higher end enthusiast boards." There are quite a few sub-$100 level motherboards out there equipped with eSATA, and even more as you move up the pricing tier a bit. Here are just a handful:

Foxconn P965
Gigabyte 630i
Abit P965
Asrock P31
Asus P35
Asrock P35
Asus P965
Foxconn P35
Foxconn G965
MSI G33 (2 eSATA ports)
MSI P35 (2 eSATA ports)
MSI P35 Plat (2 eSATA ports)
Asus P35 (2 eSATA ports)

No argument there, that's actually correct. That's the cool thing about making two completely opposite statements - one of them is bound to be right.

Built in eSATA is quickly becoming standard on motherboards. Like with everything it starts with higher end products and trickles down to lower end as technology advances. Your statement would have been true if you had made it on July 3 2007, but not today.

everyone seems to enjoy tearing me a new one by basing a whole line of replies based on one or two words... I am used to it as well... I try to choose my words carefully and still get ripped so I may as well become a lurker rather than try to help the community
