Default Re: AHCI Mode without reinstalling Windows

Even the time to hit delete for the BIOS seems really small with the AHCI screen. But for that one I just hold it down without repeating it. The F12 I had to repeat it. With the Gigabyte Logo screen I could hit delete or F12 just once and I have a few seconds with the screen up so there is never any rush and it always worked with just one touch. Oh well.

I saved 2 seconds by disabling the sound card. Not a tremendous time savings but I would be interested in the script when you have time. If it is easy to do maybe it is worth it. Thanks for all your help. I really appreciate it.

2 seconds is not a lot, you should be happy your soundcard isn't slowing you down. :P

As for the script it's 2 .bat files. One ran at shutdown and one ran at boot.
They're very simple, this is the boot one
Code:
devcon /enable "PCIVEN_1102&DEV_0005&SUBSYS_00211102&REV_00"
And this is the shutdown one
Code:
devcon /disable "PCIVEN_1102&DEV_0005&SUBSYS_00211102&REV_00"
You need the devcon utility, which you can find here.

You also need your sound card hardware ID (may differ from mine), which you can find easily by going in the device manager, right clicking your sound card then properties. Go to the Details tab then in the Property box choose Hardware IDs.

I suggest placing the devcon.exe utility under the system32 folder (found under Windows folder) so it is accessible from anywhere.

To add a shutdown/startup script, go to Start->Run->"gpedit.msc". Then navigate to Computer Configuration->Windows Settings->Scripts. In the right hand pane you will see two entries, Startup and Shutdown. Double click each and add your scripts to each respectively.

Very interesting stuff. Thanks. You are right. 2 seconds is pretty good. The new driver I tried from them was a lot longer to load so I went back to my old one.
