Hopefully it will work for him. When possible I generally tend to look to replace the graphics card, however, in the case of a laptop that option is somewhat limited. Really a bummer when you buy a new monitor only to find out after the fact the system doesn't support it. That sucks! Ron Last edited by Reloadron; October 12th, 2007 at 01:22.

| dunno if this'll help, but the nVidia drivers for the 8800 gts doesn't render properly with the resolution, you get the fuzziness that he talks about. Nvidia's fix is to use their control panel and make a customize resolution with set values of 1650X1050. Maybe he can do something like that. There's a whole procedure, im currently at work so i dont have the page bookmarked, but i found it on google when i typed 8800GTS image blurry |

| I took home the Acer monitor home and connected the DVI cable and fired up the desktop and went into the display settings and realized that I did not see the native res of 1680x1050. Instead I saw something like 1440x900......selected that res and hit apply. The comp jus went black and reverted back to the 1280x1024 res. Shut down the comp and took off the DVI and used the D-Sub cable instead and did the whole process over again. This time I saw the native resolution of 1680x1050.......finally. The display is nice and crisp with no distortion whatsoever. Question I want to ask is this, why is it that the native resolution will not appear when I use the DVI cable?? ![]() http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z.../1680x1050.jpg AMD Athlon XP 3000 Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe Corsair XMS 1GB DDR 400 nVidia Geforce FX5900 Maxtor 60 GB sata Thermaltake Xaser 3 chassis Antec Tru Power 550 Thermaltake Volcano 12 hsf Windows XP Professional Laptop: Toshiba P305-S8844 |

Next, it is hard to say why the options were as they were. Overall it comes down to the video card manufacturer. That beyond the maximum resolutions allowed by either DVI or VGA (which is no longer VGA and has not been for years but we call it that). A Google of Maximum Resolution of VGA or Maximum resolution of DVI will explain some of things in detail. The card manufacturer determines what their card will do. What the card will do is in the driver software including what the card will do in either mode. When you get into the advanced display settings and choose a resolution from the choices that resolution is passed to the registry of the OS. Thus the suggestion to hack the registry to push the card. The bitch, as you saw is that a LCD panel running outside its native resolution will not deliver a sharp clean image. Ron
