WMP 11 is horribly borked IMHO. It may work well in Vista, and I've not had a problem while using Vista and WMP 11, but in XP, nothing but severe problems, instability and then, there's that RIAA finger in the mix I don't care for.

I never had problems with it and XP though.

Lucky chance?

I didn't know it was okay to post links - sorry. Here's one to the Neuview download site.
Experience Now

Here is a link to a plugin which applies the basic technology to WMP - I haven't tried it yet in MPC which I agree is really good. Actually never thought to try it - I'll have to do that! Here's the plugin link.

I think you're not allowed to do it until a few posts (5?). I think.

If you have any idea how to make it work with MPC, shoot me a PM. I fiddled a bit with the plugin, not quite sure if it's "compatible" with MPC. *shrugs*
Works well in WMP, but that's not exactly what I want.

I'll have to play with it a little because I'd never thought about trying it until today when you brought it up, to be honest. MPC I use occasionally because I really like the understandable way of dealing with codecs and stuff. I got mad a couple of months ago and blasted all those Zoomplayers and VLC and everything else that needed codecs off my machine and stayed with MPC. With those others you end up fiddling with them more than you use them - and you end up with tons of codecs that start conflicting with each other or won't stay installed and then you end up with G-spot and other programs and pretty soon the whole thing takes over your life!!! MPC at least does what you tell it to do and doesn't very often argue!
You sound pretty knowledgeable on this - do you know if MPC can be configured to work with DRM copy protection? Or know of any other good player which does? That is the only good thing I have to say about WMP 11 - it does that stuff very well, much better than 10 where every few weeks you end up rebuilding your licenses for one reason or another. I have not had to do that even one time with 11.

Sadly enough, MPC cannot execute WMV DRM licences and I don't know of any other player which is capable of doing so.
Thing is, Microsoft won't realease code on how-to load the DRM license files with WMV for other software programmers to use it, else it's just a matter of seconds before someone cracks it open and DRM is proved useless. Besides they have nothing to gain there, their software does it so they're happy with it.

I really like MPC for one reason, you can stretch the image as you want with the numpad. If you're watching a few movies on your computer you quickly get annoyed by different widescreen aspects (16:9 TV to 16:10 monitor = black bars) which don't perfectly fit. With MPC you can stretch and hide those ugly black borders and since DVD is relatively "high resolution" when you're at more than 18 inches of your monitor you can't see the artifacts caused by modidfying the pixel height.
People don't look too long either since it's not a big stretch, and I still prefer to stretch it than not use my whole monitor. What use is a 16:10 monitor if you always get to see 2 black bars at the top and bottom?

Other than that it's just incredibly reliable. If you're having any problem to watch a certain movie file, here's the steps required to watch it:
-Install MPC
-Install Combined Community Codec Pack
-Install Real Alternative
-Install Quicktime Alternative Lite

I have yet to see a video file resist to this "combo". It's also very lightweight, doesn't use alot of resources to do what other players do and between you and me, I always had something for the Win9X look. :P

Okay, well I'm on XP Pro 32bit, so maybe that has something to do with it. Wasn't v11 designed more with Vista in mind, though? It looks like it was. Anyway, I see a lot of you guys talking about codecs and licences and stuff like that, but I don't tend to mess with those things that much. I don't download stuff, and I don't use it for DVDs, just my music. It plays my stuff fine, and that's all I care about. I did notice more problems with loading it, and the program messing some things up after I uploaded nearly my whole CD collection into the library though. When I first did the update, I had no issues at all.

If it's not fixed, then don't broke it!

I haven't had any issues using it with XP. Although it's not my main player. I mostly use VLC.
