To continue Joker's question - what exactly are you doing "on" your son's PC? Sounds kinda like a little too much PC-love?

sorry to ressurect this sorry, hijacked excuse for a thread but I've got another issue - got everything working pretty well (afterdownloading about 150 windows updates) and software installed (gave up trying to find my student/home version of Office 2003 after 3 days and bought the 2007 edition).

I still can't get .Net framework 1.1 installed. I realize MS has moved on to 2.0 and perhaps beyond, but my windows update keeps nagging me to download and install it. It keeps crapping out on me. MS help says the paper I'm looking for to solve the problem doesn't exist anymore (hey, I knew it was an old OS but I didn't think it was THAT old!).

I tried some solutions from the web but they referred me to MS Help pages that no longer exist. Anyone willing to rummage around in their old storage boxes, blow the dust off some OS papers and offer a solution?

I just want to finish off this dang project so I can move on to something else (like planting a vegetable garden for my 5-year old). I also need to move my wife's Outlook Express settings and files from the old laptop into the (just as old) pc. Is there an easy way to do this?
