I like how they tie it into the update packages. I didn't let it install either, I figure if they want me to run security updates then they shouldn't put junk like that in there. I know the security updates are suppose to be for my benefit but I use firefox and I'm behind a firewall and there's nothing sensitive on my computer to lose so the heck with them.

Microsoft no longer forces the automatic download of their validation tool after not only a lawsuit, but the discovery of the validation tool being a security flaw in XP. Several worms have managed to disquise themselves as the WGA.

FYI I went to windows update and it still has the WGA and it doesn't have a option to not download it.

Keep us updated on this Capper Id like you know a full opinion or review when you think you have enough info for it. But just some thoughts would be nice.....

If you go through their website, you need to have it installed. However, if you have 'Automatic Updates' enabled, you do not need to go through the WGA process.

Doesn't automatic updates just install everything anyway? I like to choose whats installed and what to leave off.

Nope, unless you tell it to. You can configure it to ask before downloading and installing, or to download automatically but ask before installing, or to do it all automatically.

I have mine configured to ask me before both downloading/installing, and then I do exactly what you mentioned above - I "choose what's installed and what to leave off..."

EDIT:
I just took a screenie. To access these options, right-click MY COMPUTER, select PROPERTIES, and click on the AUTOMATIC UPDATES tab. Notice the bullet that says "Notify me but don't automatically download or install them."

Click the image to open in full size.
