| I like how they tie it into the update packages. I didn't let it install either, I figure if they want me to run security updates then they shouldn't put junk like that in there. I know the security updates are suppose to be for my benefit but I use firefox and I'm behind a firewall and there's nothing sensitive on my computer to lose so the heck with them. |

| Microsoft no longer forces the automatic download of their validation tool after not only a lawsuit, but the discovery of the validation tool being a security flaw in XP. Several worms have managed to disquise themselves as the WGA. |

I have mine configured to ask me before both downloading/installing, and then I do exactly what you mentioned above - I "choose what's installed and what to leave off..." EDIT: I just took a screenie. To access these options, right-click MY COMPUTER, select PROPERTIES, and click on the AUTOMATIC UPDATES tab. Notice the bullet that says "Notify me but don't automatically download or install them." ![]() | |
