If you have an extra hard drive somewhere that is like 5-20GB, put that in there and see if it will install to that hard drive. It may either be a problem with the CD Drive, something in the system itself or Ubuntu just doesn't like your system.

Thanks HL and Corsair!

I think it's Ubuntu doesn't like my new system. Suse worked just fine.

I used Nero to create one disc (i386) and Infra Recorder to create a second disc, both with the same result. I then tried Nero to create the 64-bit version and it didn't work either. I can get as far as loading the Ubuntu window, then it freezes and thats as far as it gets. I've been interested in trying it out for about a year now but didn't want to trash my system. I decided since I'm getting a copy of Vista soon, that it wouldn't matter if I trashed it or not.
This is usually due to creating a linux-swap partition. While it's booting, press CTRL+ALT+F1 and let us know what verbose it outputs.

I finally got Ubuntu running last night. I downloaded 6.06 and it went right into the live setup. I then was able to install which went rather easy although the partitioning was a little hard to get selected (did the manual). Luckily I already had a partition I wanted to use for this but for some reason it split that partition in half. It was late last night when I got it installed so I didn't get to checkout everthing, so tonight I'll get to work with it more. One question I do have is that I could see my other hard drive thats being used by the Windows partition and I was wondering how/if you can access the files on my other hard drives/partitions setup with windows?

I'll need to download the drivers for my sound card becuase it started up with full volume and insanely loud and I couldn't turn the sound down. Thats all I know I need to do at this time but if there are any suggestions feel free.

Thanks everyone for all the help.

typically you do need to split a single partition into 2 or 3 pieces with linux, 1 for swap, 1 for root and 1 for data.. most of the time you can get away without the root one. This is why I take a look at the automatic partitioning to be sure it is done right. for the swap it only needs to be 3-4GB and the rest from the data

as for getting files from the NTFS partition, you should be able to once at the desktop. It should show as hdb1 or something to that nature.

On my windows machine I have 2 physical drives with the first drive being the Windows (of course) and the 2nd drive is used for file storage. The first drive is/was split into 2 partitions, the second half of the first drive was a 58GB drive but was cut in half by Ubuntu so it is now a 29GB drive and Ubuntu took the rest of that drive. When in Ubuntu I can see all the drives but when I tried to open I needed either /root access or drives needed to be mounted? I can't remember didn't write it down but I saw both messages at some point while working with it. It was late so I was getting a little sleepy so I may be wrong on which message was dislpayed. Anyways, I can't wait until I get home today to play around with Ubuntu some more.

In that case, it seems to me you're the victim of a corrupted HTTP download. You shouldn't use anything but bittorrent for large downloads.
