Except one guy, but he doesn't use his new laptop for games, nor more than 3/4 hours a week normally. But he did spend 10+ hours trying to get his printer to work. | |

| Nice Tom, made me spit up my morning coffee. I don't see how this would kill linux. Even if they won in court there are so many distro's out and I'm sure there would still be development even if it went underground and was distributed by P2P. |

| Well now that I have eaten crow, tastes like chicken. I still think the whole issue is being made more out of than it deserves. MS takes a ton of heat and in seriousness without them the PC world would LIKELY be a real mess right now. They in whatever way you feel created a standard for the industry to work around. Open source is great but the very nature of it maeks standards hard. I mean look at luinix, putting in a driver is much more involved than Windows, the average user would not even try. Plus with Luinix you never know which build you are getting since there are different builds and hence different ways to deal with many different things. I agree with Capper, however it scares me. The phone company break up did NOT help most people. In fact it created issues for some where phone service deteriorated fast. Is MS really wanted to cry foul, Gates would take all his money, tell the world thanks for the ride and close MS. In fairness to the man I would not fault him for doing it. The result would be a serious MESS in the computer industry and at least 10 years to really sort it out. Also I am curious as to why all the crying about Windows, if you don't like it dont use it, it is really simple. If you are upset that a particualr game that not play on the OS you choose this is not the fault of MS but the creator of the game, however it is their RIGHT it make it for the platform they choose, again not MS fault. The reason is simple it is easy for people to complain about what is wrong, to cry about how unfair things are and how messed up someone else is. It is much easier than having the guts to step forward with a solution instead of pointing out problems. There is an old saying; Evil triumphs when good men do nothing. Now I am not calling MS evil but there is still a wisdom in this saying. Men must DO something not talk about it. | I'm Diggin it! | Saying "If you don't like it, don't use it" in conjunction with, and I paraphrase, "stop complaining unless you can fix it" doesn't integrate very well with this particular technology market. As you can readily see, those folks that are capable of doing something, and have done something, are facing frivolous lawsuits for copyright infringement. In the Military, we are told that if you're going to complain about a situation, make sure you have a viable alternative (suggestion). If one Soldier comes up with a totally assed up Op-Order, you can make your own to replace it and if it's better, it will be used. But the format for doing so is readily available, fairly easy to understand and accepted across multiple services as a good briefing format. In the Operating System world, there is no single acceptable format. These secrets are closely guarded. Programs from Operating Systems to games take multiple engineers to design, code and test for a reason. As the technology changes for hardware, software has to evolve as well or the technologies will grow stagnant. It requires a highly skilled Army of people to get any OS or game to market. The large majority of folks can't afford to write their own OS. It's too time and cost prohibitive. Not to mention that not everyone can code. So we rely on the free market to provide us with products to use. Demanding that a product be built, or in this case, coded better is all part of the free market. We as consumers can demand a higher level of quality. Are you happy with paying $3.15 or more for gas? Go refine your own. Go build yourself an alternative fueled car. Or, you can be like the rest of us with limited skills and money and see what the system shakes out. Eventually, there will be better products. But in the mean time, I'm gonna complain about the ones I have if they aren't meeting expectations or marketing hype. | I agree Tom. The time involved for 1 person to build a OS or develop a game is simply too long anymore. |

| Gee, I wonder IF; I could get a patent on the use of the number 0 and 1 as my concept of how to do anything relating to computers and other electrical equpitment. Then look at all the folks I could sue for infringement ??? hahaha |
