The images are alot clearer now. Maybe you could fix the second one, that one is still a bit blurry.

I'm just waiting for your second part... using it is where I get like Drew and start breaking things.

I want to know things like:
  • How files and folders are arranged and how to find them?
  • What base programs the OS comes with and what needs to still be downloaded?
  • What are some of the better Linux programs programs to use for basic things like photo editing, word processing, internet browsing, music listening, and movie watching?
  • How to install and/or upgrade hardware (primarily drivers)?
  • OS maintenance things (like disk defragmentation, screen savers, desktop wallpaper, etc.)
I'm sure there's more too, but I can't think of them at the moment...

Well a few I can answer now
The files are aranged like windows. if you look at the contents of the disk you will see a bunch of folders and one called home inside home you will find you username and if you click that it will have all your files etc in it. In linux directories use foward slashes, Ex, /home/LeadHead/Desktop. Nearly all distros have Firefox and OpenOffice preinstalled, Basicly everything you need is there, except for maby a movie player, but those can be obatined easily. Hardware is basicly plug in and go, Linux has drivers for like everything. The only drivers you would need are gfx drivers, if you have nVidia you are in look, nVidias Linux drivers rul, ATIs blow. the Linux file system does not the be defragmented. Screen savers and Wall paper settings are distro specefic unfortuantly, i will write up a Use guide Friday or when i have some time

Hmm, good to know. But some of the file system and folder arrangement stuff might be better demonstrated with some screenshots and stuff. I'll just wait for your guide ;)

thats good to know that everything will automatically recognize everything with the drivers. i just got an old intel pro100 ethernet NIC today for my linux build so im hoping it will recognize it. phew its a good thing i went with a Geforce2 Pro for graphics. i originally was thinking of a 3Dfx or an ATi card but then thought about drivers.
what about sound card drivers? also links to distro specific backgrounds would be nice too if possible
