Default Re: Kubuntu

I personally don't like Kubuntu, I prefer the KDE GUI using Suse. Fedora Core isn't bad, but I prefer the software bundle that comes with Suse. If you want to install more software you just have to use the YaST instead of installing from the command line.

That, and don't go through HTTP. I'd use bittorrent.

Problem is, I'm capped off by the broadband company at around 117kb/s, so trying to download using multiple connections, bitT, is no help, it's always at 117kb.

I was referring to the fact that BT is usually more reliable for downloading huge files like this.

I'm using a download manager to download the file, I would have to be crazy to use a straight HTTP connection on a 4GB+ file.

22% complete - 9 more hours to go

lets see, as of this post he should have 4 hours left, lets see if I have the same file done before he is, I will start in a few minutes since I need the latest version anyways...

downloading from Georgia Tech, USA, 64-bit Kubuntu .iso
697.5MB file, says 1.5 hours left

Thanks HL and Corsair!

sorry meant to edit previous one...
I'm downloading the Kubuntu DVD .iso, 4.2GB in size.
85% done - 3.5GB so far - 1 hour 45 mins until completion.

Update:
Finished downloading!
took about 10 hours.

Update #2:
OK, it's running fine off the DVD, but how do I get that fancy desktop/liquid windows? Do I have to install it to the HDD to work?

Mine took 1hr 18min for the almost 700MB .iso

as for the fancy Xwindow transitions and stuff, it does need to be installed on the hd for it to workfully

aha the DVD image, hmmmm I could use that on my Athlon64 system... starting DL in a few minutes because I am curious of my speeds as well

edit: hmmm hanging pretty well between 190-200 kb/s, a little over 6 hours to go

Thanks HL and Corsair!
