I'm running a highly modified copy of Fedora Core 6, but I'm planning on building my own system from scratch sometime this month. I really like Fedora, but I can't compile my own kernel with it because of the way it hides the partition.

any linux folk have any ideas?
tried heliodor, reloads etc.
talking with kelly and he just keeps saying "somethins f***** with borders"
Use Fedora Core. All I had to do was type "yum install *beryl*" and it worked, without installing any proprietary drivers (using open Radeon).

Which programs? There's a Linux alternative to practically everything, from games to iPhoto.

In addition to those, there are also Goobuntu, Xubuntu, Ubuntu Satanist Edition, and several more.

I'm using XMMS right as I type. I've always been a big fan of Winamp2 (hated the other versions), so I was ecstatic when I first used XMMS. I can't honestly say that it's superior to Winamp2, but it does everything Winamp2 does, and it does it in Linux.

Also, XMMS2 is under development at the moment. The new release is merely a media core, much like MCI, and allows shells to function through it. I haven't gotten a chance to try it yet, but I believe it will be superior to the original XMMS when the final version is released.

Anyways, XMMS is far from the only player for Linux. There are others, including Totem, Amarok, Rythmbox, and VLC.

meh
at this point i'm getting close to abandoning windows aside from my sony apps, (vegas, acid, and soundforge) and my games.
kubuntu is just quicker, and the torrenting client that comes with it, (ktorrent) is awesome.

I'll be trying the Kubuntu DVD, first want to try it as a live cd boot.
Should I pick the i386 or AMD64 .ISO version? Is there any risk of incompatibility with the A64 versions?

Hit up the AMD64 since you have that :D The AMD64 version is essentially just Kubuntu for x64 systems.

You know, I never got Kubuntu running on this system. I just got it working on my laptop. It never picked up my hard disk.
