Default Re: Gah!! Kaspersky = super restrictive!

Update. I'm running XP smoothly now... Finished installing most stuff yesterday, but I'm still lacking updated graphics drivers (sitting on the crappy Dell drivers).

I decided to run Avast still, seeing it's never caused me a problem. I've also decided to have Spybot now. Windows Firewall is good enough for a firewall for now...

Any other random suggestions?

Windows Defender is actually a good program. And it's free.

^ Yup, props to Windows Defender. Used to use it all the time back when it was still in beta (and still called Microsoft AntiSpyware). But when I last installed it when searching for a new app, it had a single process hogging an assload of memory... Any memory hoggers go down the drain for me. But it does have active protection, which Spybot clearly lacks.

If I got rid of memory hogging software, I'd have to get rid of Firefox first. It uses more memory than Defender does. Good luck with whatever you decide to use, or not use.

Windows Defender is nothing but problems. It crashed 2 of my XP systems (1 pro, 1 home)... I found this out from the event viewer... Ever since I uninstalled it, the problems had stopped. It actually caused a problem when I tried to update my ATi drivers.. that was the last straw so it is gone from all 3 of my regularly running XP systems.

Thanks HL and Corsair!

Never had a problem with it since Beta. Luck of the draw I guess.

my boss also had issues on his office PC and his wife's at home... different versions, one of mine the install was less than 3 months, the other about a year or more... so far no common denominator.
Mine is OEM Pro from holograph disc, my other one is XP Home from Dell...

Thanks HL and Corsair!
