Have you heard anything about PCLinuxOS or Freespire/Linspire?
Would you honestly pay $50 for Linspire, when you could get Ubuntu and many others for free?

No, I most definitely would not. I was mostly referring to the free version

Lin/freespire is a joke. Not only is it one of the worst distributions out there (and for a fee??), but it runs everything as a superuser, so the system is just as vulnerable as Windows XP.

Great Job Josh. I have to agree with your choice of Distros to cover. These are the 3 I recommend to people all the time. I prefer Suse over all of these, but thats the great thing about Linux, you have a choice.

As far as games go I was able to get CS:S running using Wine. It actually plays quite well. Quake 4 has a linux install available so I am able to play that as well. Skype also has a Linux version. So you're good there as well.

After a weekend of playing with a few distros, Ubuntu 7.04beta is still buggy, 6.10 is still buggy for me but 6.06.1 works fantastic....
also found that Kubuntu tends to handle video related tasks much better then the Gnome based Ubuntu plus has a much cleaner look to it.

I am a KDE convert
