| I like Avast ... solid detection, small footprint, easy, low maintenance and very few false positives ... ohh and it is free. I use it with Comodo firewall and Spybots protection features. | I've been using AVG Free and Windows Defender/Firewall/Thingy... I think I may try Avast, but I haven't been having any issues with AVG Free, and AFAIK it works pretty well. E8400 DFI Blood Iron P35-T2RL 4GB G.Skill 800MHz Sapphire Radeon HD3870 512MB Silverstone DA650W WD 250GB + Seagate 320GB |

| T-Rex | The family computer runs Grisoft AVG Free and Windows Defender. It's a decent combo. The sole reason why it's not using Avira Antivir PersonalEdition Classic is because my dad can't stand the pop-up when it updates. Anyway my main rig is running Avira Antivir PersonalEdition Premium now (since I thought it was worth to pay for it) so the family computer will likely get the same treatement soon. :) |

| Colonel Calamity | correct Pros: its free cons: it pops up the advertisement every day when it updates AVG doesn't have this but it is not as strong as some of the others ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! My opinions are my own and not representative of this site or its members. |

| T-Rex | Yeah, AVG has that "OK" button which closes after 30 seconds. At any rate, if you're working on your computer, both are to a certain extent "annoying", both also only disappear after 1 well placed click, only Antivir one takes a bit more screen real-estate, which I guess is what annoyed my dad. |

| Colonel Calamity | I will take the annoying ad to get the best protection anyday, especially if that great protection comes at a price of free ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! My opinions are my own and not representative of this site or its members. |

| I uninstalled Avast yesterday and installed Avira to give it a try and both seem to be good specially considering the price. The popups for both are not that much of a problem considering what your getting. |

I've tried several other antivirus solutions, and most simply don't cut it for me. They're either too heavy (too demanding on computer resources) or have a bad detection rate. Since I've noticed av-comparatives testings (there's also virus.gr which provided me more information on antivirus testing) i've moved from AVG Free to Antivir Classic, then Premium version. Couldn't be more happy. :) | |

| I've used both AVG and Avira. I like both of them. Haven't had any issues with either system. SIG Under Construction - working on something new. |
