Antec had a hard time in last 3 years and I've had to do quite a lot of RMA's for Antec PSUs (Used to work in a computer boutique). More SmartPower 2 than anything, but quite a few TruePower and NeoHE too.
Iv sent two power supplies back to Antec over the last 2 years. One NeoHE...(They were known to have problems with Asus MB's) and one Antec Trio fan never came on!
That being said there Customer service is top notch in my experience!

I've had one antec go bad on me, it was a smartpower, i think.... had it in a oem hp case, hot little case, and the psu was loaded with cheap caps, teapo's, I think. Would have been fine in most cases, but cheap caps and heat don't go to well. Eventually the caps just started to go out on it, all nice and blulgy.

But that was a really cheap psu, I'm sure the higher up ones are better.

The delivery guy dropped off my new Corsair TX 750, a couple of hours ago. On 1st impressions, I am blown away. It looks stunning up close. The matt black against the orange looks really good and the fan grill complements the case nicely. Also, I didnt realise until taking it out the box and fitting it to my rig, it matches my Big Typ VX due to it having a orange fan. That probably wouldnt matter much usually but for me its great, coz I am ordering my Danger Den Water Box Plus (also intended to be used with air coolers) very soon and as you probably know, its make of clear acrylic.

Back to the PSU. The noise generated is very low in comparison to my 4 month old Antec TPT 430w. And the Antec used its Quite Computer branding as part of its point of sales. Lies!!!

The 1st negative thing I found with the TX750, was lack of removable cables. I then thought about it for a little while, trying to convince myself that it wasnt so bad after all. I would just cable tie all un-used cables together and tuck them away some where. I still wasnt convinced though. But then it hit me! The more non-permanent connections electricity has to pass through , the more chance of interference and fluctuations in voltage. That was more than enough to convince me, that that was the best method of wiring.

Once again, thanx for all your advice coz I know I have made the right decision.

Thats one thing I forget about is sound, compared to my newest setup, my XP3000+ box sounds like a jet engine. My E6600 setup with 4x120mm fans, Big Typh and Corsair PSU is quiet as can be... may be time to pick up another Sonata case to get the fan sounds down in the XP3000+ box.

Thanks HL and Corsair!

Corsair does have modular versions of the PSU, so if you wanted that, you could have gone another route. Having had both modular and non-modular power supplies, I can say that I don't think its really that big of a deal unless you are in a small form factor case. Its always pretty easy to just bundle up the few extra cables and stash them off to the side somewhere out of the way. And as you mentioned about the better flow of power through non-modular connection, that is the basis of why PC Power & Cooling does not have any modular power supplies.

We have surprisingly similar branding choices, considering I almost brought a Antec case also.

I didnt know they did two versions and TBH I am glad. I would have went modular version with out a second thought, but am now happy to have the very slightly superior non-modular version.

*Now knows what modular and non-modular means*

with the current models of Corsair PSUs, VX is standard and HX is modular... I have the 620HX modular... love not having all the extra wires floating around.

I did wonder what VX and HX stood for. I thought it might be something to do with component grade.

Usually the TX/VX is an extra 20-50Watts because of the standard (non-modular) connections. VX is multi-rails and TX is single rail, TX has 2x 8-pin pcie connectors and the VX has 1x 8-pin and 1x 6-pin. The TX has more amps on the 12v rail, and the VX has a little better efficiency. The HX is modular.
