Because they're lightweight and generic (the two almost always go hand in hand). Like other generics, you can get away with it on an older build (modest Barton rig, for example), but in a modern machine, you're rolling the dice.

On the budget front: Antec and FSP come to mind. A little higher up on the pricing scale sits OCZ.

Myself.
All agreed. And since when do you have hair? :P

If there is a final hour, let's hope for a higher power. One by one, and two by two, I have ammo, what about you?

The smallest one I have used is their 550 Watt. It was heavy enough to beat a certain MPC reviewer.

Has your experience with that unit positive or negative? What particular model do you have? I can't seem to find too many Rosewill PSU reviews around the 'net, so any and all first hand information is welcome...

Here is another option, the PSU Hammer Throw.

I have the 600w model, and the thing weighs around 4 pounds...not something I'd call light. Taking it apart, the heatsinks on it are larger and cover more area then some higher name brands I've had. Its a great PSU, and powered my system where my old Hiper failed. I wouldn't suggest them for a high end build of course, the problem being that each model is a different OEM and unless you extensively research who the original maker is the quality between models varies widely (mine is made by Solytech aka Deer, go ahead and shriek and tell me it'll burst into flames, they're really trying to move up market as evident by this PSU). So while one unit, like the Stallion series 500w may be made by a somewhat decent company like ATNG, others like the 550w I believe are made by Coolmax which are known for taking a dump within the first year. If memory serves some of the 300-450w PSUs are Sparkle/FSP, but I can't confirm that.

So if your building a $2000+ system? Hell no, get something you know is high quality in each unit. But if your putting together a ~300-500 dollar office rig, the Rosewills are awesome when you can nab them on sell (usually all the time at Newegg). Otherwise they try to compete in the same market as Silverstone, Antec and OCZ/PCPC which just aint happening.

EEEEEEK! It's gonna explode!

But seriously, heres some linkage to an example of good rosewell psuage JonnyGURU.com - Power Supply Reviews and more! - Reviews - Rosewill Xtreme Series Power Supplies

But +1 on the fact that you just have to figure out who really made the psu to make a judgment, you can't just say "it's a rosewill" and come to any fair conclusion at this point.
