I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal.

While wattage is important so are a LOT of other factors. Hows does it do disipating heat? Noise level of cooling? How clean is the power? How well does it handle voltage flucuations? What kind of life span will it have?

The last one will be the hardest one to test.

Edited for stupidity: I missed you specifying POWMAX

High quality PSUs that tout 80-85% efficiency at 50C (Which is hard to acheive without duct taping the vents on the PSU)....I'd generally say that they'll hold up perfectly fine between 350-400W, which is fine for most systems not running a Quad Core, RAID, or an 8800GTX

INTEL QX9650 // Gigabyte EP45 Extreme // 8GB PC2-8500 // BFG GTX260 MaxCore // DD Torture Rack // Seagate 750GB HDD // OCZ Vendetta // PC Power & Cooling 620W PSU

I've actually seen where someone tested a PowMax 550, and it actually did blow out around 250-280 watts or so. JonnyGuru I think, not sure though. But yeah, allot of PSUs say they can do 550 Watts at 80% effieciency, then they have (at 20*C) in tiny letters where you can't see it

As always, we don't recommend buying "cheap" power supplies, and in fact we always encourage people to buy high quality units from ANTEC, Fortron, Thermaltake, OCZ, Corsair, and Enermax, among others who stand by their products and put them through strenuous testing

I have an Ultra XPro 800w in my system, and I like the active PFC feature very much. I won it from another tech forum's contest :)
