Having a higher rated PSU isn't going to increase your electric bill. If the computer is only using 500w, the PSU is only going to supply 500w, not its max rated wattage. Just like an engine only uses the gas it needs for 30mph, not the gas it needs to run 100.

I'd go with something in the 600w range. You'll see a longer upgrade life from the PSU. If you know for sure you'll never upgrade your current rig, a high quality 500-550w will serve you well.

I would only add to what Quakindude covers by including something like if a PSU is 80% efficient in a given output range and you are working in that range things golike this.

Lets say a system is drawing 500 Watts (The actual power used by the system). Lets say it is a 1000 Watt PSU and in the 500 Watt range it is 83% efficient. The actual draw at the wall outlet (Power In) would be 600 Watts. Matters not that the PSU is rated at 1,000 Watts.

Efficiency in its simplest terms = Power Out / Power In X 100 to express as a percent or in the above example 500 / 600 = .833 X 100 or about 83% efficient. Meaning I am using 600 Watts of household power to get 500 Watts of useable power to my system.

Even a 1000W PSU will only draw 300W's if that is all the PC requires.

Higher efficiency = lower electric bills, all of today's better PSU's are capable of 80%+ efficiency.

......

Yes the Corsair 450W should be enough, however I recommend the Corsair 520W.

For the money in a 550 watt PSU I would look at the following:

Antec NeoHE 550

SeaSonic S12 Energy Plus SS-550HT

Corsair CMPSU-520HX

All three are great PSUs with good efficency and reasonably priced. You would not go wrong with any of these.

Welcome David!
