| Hey screwballl check out some games like Guild Wars, Call of Duty, or Battlefield (psst...all free to play online with other people). My favs include: 1) SWG - I still get on and enjoy this one from time to time. The level grind is way more enjoyable than it used to be. Questing really adds to the flavor especially those with great story lines. My level 90 jedi will pwn u. 2) WoW - I switched to this one when the SWG grind got old (before they added questing) and the quests were a nice change. I also got to have a few pets which I missed greatly from the old SWG creature handler days. The 4-6 hour Molton Core runs got a bit old and end game gear was just no longer worth the time. 3) Party Poker Online - Can't get enough of that hold'em. Not enough gamblers here in Utah for me to enjoy a weekly game with. :eviltongue: ![]() :beerglass: Without chemicals such as hydrogen and oxygen, for example, there would be no way to make water, a vital ingredient in beer. -- Dave Barry Last edited by kmartsucks; December 15th, 2006 at 20:37. |

| Colonel Calamity | MMO = Massive Multiplayer Online game Yes I have and see absolutely no point in paying a monthly fee to play it. I have been playing CS since 1.1 days among others... the only real MMORPG that I played (on a friend's account) was Everquest and EQ2 but even after several hours I just thouhg it was entirely to tedious and not worth paying ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! My opinions are my own and not representative of this site or its members. |

| Have never tried Guild Wars, how is the gameplay, which of the other MMO's does it play similar to? Gotta admit the no monthly fee is pretty attractive, but a free bag of poop is still just a bag of poop. |

| I'm Diggin it! | Screwballl, I hear ya brother. However, I've played EVE Online for a couple of years now. Some games are worth the money, some aren't. All depends on your choice of gaming. Eve is the ONLY MMO I've paid to play. After I sell off my second character here soon, I won't be paying to play any more games. The reason that MMO's are pay to play is because they have something other games do not: live content, ever changing game events, and most importantly, social interactivity on a level entirely different than what CS has in game. Comparing CS to a game like EverQuest is like comparing apples to oranges. Neither has anything really in common. The core of what I am saying is thus: CS is extremely linear, as all FPS tend to be. HL2, FEAR, Doom, whatever. You can shove all the graphics, eye candy, scripted events, blah, blah blah, all you want in a FPS game. But in the end, it is still the same old boring treadmill: frag the other guy before he frags you. Yay. MMO's on the other hand, is a persistant gaming world. This means that things change. The developers add stuff to the game all the time, new quests, items and MOB's (that's monster or beasts, for the uninitiated) for example. The point is that nothing is ever exactly the same every time in an MMO because it is a different experience every time you play. Let's talk about re-playability in a computer game. FPS fail miserably in this department. MMO's? Hardly; every time you log on, it's something different, it's a new adventure, a new experience. You can't get that with a FPS. And hell, even if you don't like EverQuest, there are other MMO's out there that you can try. You seem to like FPS games. Fine. Try playing SOE's Planet Side, an MMO FPS... the first of its kind and very successful. You could even wrangle a free trial for a week or two to play Planet Side; just download the game, play it free for a week, and if you like it, continue to play and pay a monthly fee. No one says you don't have to like it. All I'm saying is to just try it. I just feel that if you are going to judge the MMO genre simply because you tried the EverQuest series of games, and didn't like it, then you are only shorting yourself on truly experiencing what MMO's have to offer. That would be like saying I don't like pizza, but having only ate a pepperoni. There are different flavors of pizza out there; try finding one you like. Don't condemn all things pizza just because you never had the inclination to try them all. If you had presented your argument to me maybe 6 or 7 years ago when EverQuest and Ultima Online were the only two big MMO's out, (besides Meridian59, but that's a different story) then yes, I would agree that those types of games are no fun, if you didn't like that type (read setting) of game in an MMO. But fast forward those 6 or 7 years, and now there are so many different types of MMO's out that cover every single imaginable genre, from FPS, driving, fantasy, sci-fi, real life (Sims) etc. etc. there is no reason to harbor a dislike for MMO's if you haven't really gone out and actively tried some (or all) before passing judgement on your entire MMO experience... which was only EverQuest (which was a terrrific game) and EverQuest 2 (which wasn't).
