Now that I've got the ATI drivers installed in 'nix, I'm going to check into some good games for linux. I'm going to start with the n64 emulators and ZSNES, then maybe I'll even find some good, full, modern games I'll like. It'd be nice if Wine could run DirectX games.

All a PC really neads, is a controller. Once you got a good controller, its pretty much a console. =P

I mean seriously, you already got internet, you got the power. Well mabye not as much as a PS3 (not until you get a kentsfield and a crap load of gpu power.) but i'm sure someone out there could just make a universal controller and everyone w ould buy it.

I know this is a little off topic, but if you are interested I saw some people at the Ohio LinuxFest that were running Quake III on a linux system. They seemed to think it wasn't a big deal to run any game as long as the binary was on the install cd? I'm in over my head there though. You might check that out.

its been reported that sony will be following a new Sales flow chart with its ps3 release, it is said that prices will be reduced little and often over the first period of a year, after that it is said that sony will reduce its prices in bigger chunks every 3-5 months. it is rumoured that the Ps3's Final cost will be in the region of $280-$380 almost half the price of it original $599 pricetag.

Quake III was written to be run in OpenGL. Most games these days are DirectX, and that's proprietary to Microsoft. Personally, I'm going to start programming some of my own games, try to get Wine to simulate DirectX, and I'm encouraging my friend (who's majoring in game design, he's starting his own company) to write his games to be compatible with all operating systems.

Not only that, but PCs can be upgraded whenever you have an extra wadd of cash. You can't say that about consoles.

I don't think he meant for all games, as a controller can come in super handy depending on the title. Obviously a keyboard/mouse combo kicks a** for FPS titles and, well, most genres (RPGs, RTS, etc). But for sports games, sideway scrollers, and the like, a good controller is a must-have to get the most out of the experience. Playing NBA Live or Madden just sucks on a keyboard. I picked up an adapter off of EBay and have one of my XBox controllers hooked up to my PC.

Yeah, I really want a PS3 for Gran Turismo 4. But at anything over $200 they can keep it. I can wait for GTA to come out for PC and other then those two games, I don't even need a console. I guess I'll just have to play Gran Turismo in the store. I am strongly going to consider a Wii, especially if I can find a good deal on a huge lot of original NES games on ebay (I'm sure they'll get pricey after the Wii's release) just because I've always liked nintendos style of games. If they can score some deals to get some Playstation/xBox games ported over, they will have a real winner.
