| Functional Alcoholic | This statement is based on opinion and not fact. Also you came to a PC forum and asked this question so you can bet that your answer here will be no PC Games are going strong. If you went to a console forum you would get another biased answer in favor of consoles. The truth is there is no way to make a determination which one is doing better over the other. Although many games are available in many different consoles and on the PC, they all appeal to different consumer groups. I can tell you this though PC gaming isn’t going anywhere. Even though the popularity of consoles has gotten better over the past few years with the introduction of HD gaming and multiplayer gaming, they still aren’t taking gamers away from PC gaming. PC gaming appeals to a certain type of gamer that just won’t switch to console games. |

The initial price was $199 with a library of 9 titles. In a play to compete directly with the Channel F, Atari named the machine the Video Computer System (or VCS for short), as the Channel F was at that point known as the VES, for Video Entertainment System. When Fairchild learned of Atari's naming they quickly changed the name of their system to become the Channel F. Atari expanded the 2600 family with two other compatible consoles. The Atari 2700, a wireless version of the console was never released due to design flaws. The Sleek Atari 2800 released to the Japanese market in 1983 suffered from competition from the newly-released Nintendo Famicom. -1 I would rather read a NewEgg review than a [H] review | |

| I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal. | [voice=screwballl]According to The Inflation Calculator, $199 in 1977 would equate to roughly $717.39 today.[/voice] |

Nintendo released the Super Nintendo Entertainment System which initially sold for a price of $200. The North American package included the game Super Mario World. The SNES was released in the United Kingdom and Ireland in April 1992 for £150, with a German release following a few weeks later. The PAL versions of the console looked identical to the Japanese Super Famicom, except for labelling. | Colonel Calamity | lol Paul ![]() I know that $500 was an exaggeration but at a young age, $200 seemed like a lot of money. NES started with retail of $199-249 Atari 2600 started with retail of $199. Sega Master system - $200 SNES - $199 Sega Genesis - $189 (32X $149, SegaCD ~$250) Sega Saturn - $219 Sega DreamCast - $250 Playstation - $299 and so on.... ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! When I bought the first xbox360 I spent about $900, that was for the console $399+tax and several games, then the Xbox live service for $60, and some faceplates etc.. Then when it fried the first time I threw it away, and sold the games on ebay for like 5$ each. Then several months later bought it again at full price, plus more games, more accessories etc.. then the same thing happened and I quit with the xbox360 for nearly a year til I just bought a new one about 3 months ago, and tons of games, and xbox live again. And yea, alot of the games I bought were the collectors editions, I bought PREY, TES4 Obvlivion, and GEARS of WAR collectors editions, and those do add up!
