if it's application controlled, it's probably 0x AF. You should be able to turn the AF up higher as it doesn't stress the GPU as much as AA does. I would try cranking the AF up to 16x and see how it does. If it struggles at 16x AF and 2xAA, then I would drop it to 8xAF and keep the 2xAA as I think AntiAliasing is more of a noticeable visual image quality improvement over Anisotropic Filtering.

Capn' Crunch or anyone with Oblivion, can you tell me how to recharge my sword? Its out of charges and using those soul stones is going to take forever and will be expensive. I don't even know how to charge a soul stone!

You can go to the mages guild or you can use soulstones. Any soulstone that has a charge will recharge a certain amount of power to your magical weapons.

I just finished the main quest!!!! I'm so stoked! The game has run great on my x850XT PE, even running at 1680x1050. The nice thing about running at high resolutions like that is you don't need AA because there are no jaggies anyways! Overall I agree with most of what's been said. There are a few shortcomings, but overall the game is superb, and hopefully patches will be forthcoming and resolve the current issues.

how would i go about charging my soul stones? I've found some greater soul stones in a dungeon but i don't know how to use them.

As for the mages guild, where is it and who do i talk to?

thanks drew.

If anyone recalls, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind endured the same problem as well. Constant crashes to desktop were the norm when that game was first released as well as post patch(es) later.

After playing Oblivion for about 10 hours straight last night (I didn't go to bed until 6 in the morning) I think I've come to a few conclusions about the game.

1. Encumberance sucks.

2. I miss the Morrowind interface. Using your Tab key for all your interface options, such as map, quests, items, inventory etc. is a bit tedious to go through when you want to get to something. I just want to hit "I" for inventory and "Q" for quests and "M" for map for example.

3. I hate the fact that you can't steal or pick locks without always being caught. In Morrowind, you could more or less get away with it if you were not seen. Example: I did the "Unfriendly Competition" quest last night. I slayed the grave robber, Agarmir, and received quest rewards for it, including the key to his house. I go to his house, and yet even though he's dead and no one is in his house, everything appears as a red hand icon, meaning I will be caught if I steal it. To me, this is not realistic and loses a bit of its depth and fun factor for me.

On the other hand, the graphics are absolutely amazing, and all settings are maxxed out on my 6800Ultra. The game is fun, especially when dungeon crawling and sniping with my bow (I made a Stealth-Mage-Fighter) but thinking about making a pure melee fighter in order to wear heavier armor and carry more loot from my expeditions.

If someone can reccomend a character build that incorporates strong security and stealth skills but is a strong fighter, I would appreciate it. I am not too concerned about magic, other than to heal myself perhaps or buff a bit, but even then, I would rather be the warrior/thief combo rather than dabble in a bit of magic.

The best thing i got to having a character who was a good stealth character but could still melee was a dark elf archer. He could fight with a blade very well but still do good damage with bow and pick locks.

Right now i am playing as a Paladin (custom), primary blade use with restoration and alteration.

I would recommend making a custom skill set. I picked a dark elf, and then gave him the specific major and minor skills that I wanted. Took some time, but more fun to me that way.

I've been playing this game way to much... Im a lvl 23 right now, and I'm finally starting to find the good stuff. All sorts of daedric armor and weapons. Just today I found a magic ring called "The Ring of Perfection" , this thing is bad ass. plus 10 to all stats. Also found the neckless of swords. its sweet too. oops, im rambling...

I'm really far in this game. I closed all of the oblivion gates and completed that quest, I am the arch mage of the mages guild, I'm nearly to the top of the fighters guild and I think I'm level 30 or so. I'll have to check this eve. I have joined the thieves guild but haven't pursued that yet. I'm gonna live as a good guy for the time being. I also just cured my vampirism. What a pain in the ass that is. The best part about being a vampire is having the hunter's sight skill which gives night vision and life detect over quite a distance.
