What do you think would be the best way for me to avoid having that happen? Commodore 64 overclocked into outerspace ![]() Last edited by gvblake22; October 9th, 2006 at 08:03. | |

| For that budget you won't get really good temps, think that top air will even be better if you get some off the mainstream kits. Counting in this line off reasoning I think seeing you got a c2d ready mobo when you switch cpu's you will get a much cooler running cpu for which the h20 isn't maybe necesarry for the clocks you want? But there are good kits out there for reasonable prices, just take your time doing some research. Try to get some kits recommended and look at some reviews. Or ask someone more knowledgable then me :p But... This is the best kit for the money imho, also they offer great service ect. If you can get those components for the same grand total, or wait till their back in stock it's a very good kit and I think the 120.2 will easily allow you to add a gpu in the loop if you would want to. Bye bye |

| T-Rex | Just a kit like that, not too expensive; CPU: Swiftech Storm -> ~$85.00 Pump: Dangerden CSP-MAG -> ~$50.00 Radiator: Black Ice Pro II or X-Flow BIP2-> ~$40.00 Tube: Tygon half " -> >$10.00 Fans: 2 120mm -> depends Add some Artic Silver 5, and later on maybe a GPU block. So for around $200.00 you get "the best" CPU block, a radiator that proved itself, a good pump (IMO, though you could always get a Dangerden D5 for $75.00), quality tubing and you're ready to go. Edit: Oh add antifreeze and distilled water to the price, too. |

| It could possibly all be an excersize in futility too. It doesn't seem I can get it stable above 4.4ghz anyway. With the case fans turned up on high, the temps are still managable at about 325fsb, but it isn't stable. I've raised the vcore and fsb and chipset volts and lowered the memory speed.....none of them seem to matter. I may have just found the top end for this CPU. Or maybe I just don't have the guts to put the vcore where it needs to be. I need to find out which it is before I do this though. 300 fsb .....memory 600 2.2v.....vcore @1.4125 .....stable When I raise the fsb to 325 it randomly reboots.....even with the vcore at 1.425 and fsb and chipset at +.1v. I didn't raise the PCIE voltage because it is locked at 100. Does anyone know if that vcore should be higher. I still have some temp room to at least test it a little. I realize this is getting off the subject of cooling. But it still goes to the decision of whether or not I am going to need the water. So it is still kinda on topic :> Commodore 64 overclocked into outerspace ![]() |

The fact of the matter really is.....that unless you are merely concerned with bragging rights (Oh yeah, well I pushed mine to 4.6GHz....) it really makes no sense to keep pushing it. I run my E6600 at 3.15GHz on air 24/7, and it performs flawlessly at E6800 speeds. Unless you are into benchmarking, I'd be will to bet if I lined up 5-6 different systems at various clock speeds....you wouldn't be able to tell the difference in performance. As far as $150 and a quality WC kit......Swiftech had a small kit that meets your needs, but their kits have the worst instructions I've ever seen, and unless you are experienced I wouldn't recommend it. The Nautilus500 review was done with a much hotter processor than the Core 2 Duo, and works pretty welll.....but remember what i said about pushing your system INTEL QX9650 ASUS P5E3 Premium 4GB DDR3-1600 Sapphire HD 3870X2 Danger Den Tower-26 (Custom W/C) 5 x Seagate 250GB HDD in RAID5 BFG ES 800W PSU Last edited by Capper; October 9th, 2006 at 15:07. | Thanks Cap.......good advice. I don't know what it is about the need for speed but I certainly seem to have it. The fact is I put it back to stock and can't see the difference. There is one big difference, my room is cooler LOL. Oh sure maybe the superPi time is ten seconds slower, but I wasn't a math major anyway and really don't do anything with pi except eat it. So maybe I need a new diversion. Let's see........I did the Raid 0 thing.........I've already got a TV tuner PVR.......2 gb of incredible memory (thanks to HL)..... the best motherboard available (in my opinion of course).....bright shiny new traffic yellow sata cables (care of gigabyte).....modular power supply....... Geez.......any suggestions??? Commodore 64 overclocked into outerspace ![]() |

| That would certainly do it. But I'll stick with Eleanor.....she is safer. Commodore 64 overclocked into outerspace ![]() |

| I know it's about twice as much as you were looking at spending, but the Koolance Exos is a fantastic self contained unit that just sits on top of your case. It's gotten killer reviews, and if you do ever decide to mega OC your gpu, it can handle that too. Just another option to consider.
