that is fine. the idel temps are good at 44c. is just when the days get hot some times load temps get too close to max 61c . but the heat sink is fine.
i think i will lower this then. jus one more check. the FSB memory clock mode. i can either have it linked or unlinked. unliked keeps the memory ddr at my 800mhz. and unlinked drops the speed of my ram to same as whatever i underclock too. what is the safest option. the link below shows the bios screen of this. 4th pic down

ASUS P5N-E SLI (NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI)

unlinked or linked?????????

pc specs: mobo:asus p5ne-sli,E6600,2gb corsair xms2 800mhz,80gb maxtor daimond 20 hard drive,160gb sata on the way!!! evga 7800gt gpu.(8800gt on the way!!)

if your underclock it doesnt really matter, but I'd keep it on unlinked as DDR2-800 is proven to give faster performance but its neligable

I'd suggest the same myself... It seems ridiculous to underclock a CPU in a computer made for gaming. I can understand underclocking in a media center though.
So frankly, just upgrade your cooling solution. Almost anything is better than the stock intel fan. Improve your case air flow. You'd be surprised how the overall temperature can drop a few degrees just by cleaning those dust bunnies and tidy'ing up your cables.

If your using stock CPU cooling, I'd definetly recommend a cooling upgrade. I had a 805 awhile back, and that thing was a friggin' heater!! Idled at 50C with stock cooling, but I used Arctic Silver 5. I never put it a full load, though.

Again, bottom line is upgrade your cooling.

lol 50c on idele thats worse than my situation. canrt imagine load temps on that , u prob were too afraid to load cpu anyways. ive manige to underclock by 200mhz :-) lol for now. system runs stable. vcore left untouched. it fluctuates whenver it feels like anyway ,something to do with intel speedstep. jus need to check temps now. ihave a akasa evo 33 cpu fan,m which is good enough. i thinks its me case as its really old, used to have an amd athlon xp 2.0ghz. i jus used the same case not knowing how hot this cpu can go. although its a gaming pc. i can run any game on lower clocks so far anyways. so it wont do any harm. no game at mo require 3.4 dual core. maybe ill have to wait for crysis and assasins creed, see how system reacts to that.

I'm not insinuating I can make out most of that...but lowing your vcore is where you're going to get real temperature drops.

Lowering voltage is going to be trial and error. Most people use a combination of benchmarks and stability testing applications to make sure new settings are stable and you should do the same. Try 3DMark05 or 06, SuperPI, and StressPrime2004. Just lower it by one step and test for stability. If everything passes, you can try lowering voltage again (one step) and test again. Continue this process until it becomes unstable, then put the voltage back to the most recent stable setting.
