| What happens if you press on the 800Mhz one? EDIT, go on advanced options then look for "FSB (QDR) , MHz" and it should be set to auto. I think thats the one you want to change Last edited by qazwsx; September 9th, 2007 at 10:44. |

| I'm Diggin it! | I wouldn't recommend underclocking your processor because you don't have a problem. More than likely, your temp program has a built in throttling protocol that is telling the mobo to slow the CPU down because you have the temp alarm set too low. That results in applications slowing down/stuttering during use. A perfectly acceptable maximum sustained operating temperature for that CPU is 63.4*C. Many people, myself included, typically will run that temp 5-6* higher than max allowed temps while overclocking and playing around. If I have a CPU that costs a huge amount of money, I try to keep the temps 4-5* under the max Intel reported temp, and that's while I've overclocked the nuts off the CPU. Plus, your CPU doesn't run at max load very often unless you're running some type of scientific program like Folding@Home or SETI. I think you would be much better served by increasing your computer case airflow and cooling ability, going to a better CPU cooler than the Intel stock one and leaving your CPU at stock speeds. For an idea of what type CPU cooling to look for, check out our reviews of CPU coolers and the cooling options listed for Mainstream users. Even though there are newer solutions on the market, the Zalman CNPS9500 isn't as honkin big as the 9700 or others while still performing very well. | ypu the fsb qdr is set to 800mhz. i think this is what i need to lower., is doenst shjow the traditional fsb speed which is 200mhz on this cpu. but the board is quad pumped and fsb runs at 800mhz. 800/4 = 200mhz x17(multipliuer) = 3.4ghz. i think i will lower this then. jus one more check. the FSB memory clock mode. i can either have it linked or unlinked. unliked keeps the memory ddr at my 800mhz. and unlinked drops the speed of my ram to same as whatever i underclock too. what is the safest option. the link below shows the bios screen of this. 4th pic down ASUS P5N-E SLI (NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI) pc specs: mobo:asus p5ne-sli,E6600,2gb corsair xms2 800mhz,80gb maxtor daimond 20 hard drive,160gb sata on the way!!! evga 7800gt gpu.(8800gt on the way!!) |

| I'm Diggin it! | *sigh* If you insist on underclocking a CPU that is running within spec, that's up to you. However, I'll reiterate once more, you would be better off improving your cooling situation within your case or with your CPU cooler than underclocking your CPU. | Try what simple_inhibition said and try lowering the multiplier down to 16, that will give you 3.2ghz straight off withough messing with anything else, 15 will be 3.0ghz and so on Quote:

here are the settings at idle. min max multiplier (fixed)- 12x/17x fsb-200 x 17x = 3.4ghz voltages cpu core: 1.292 i have 3 case fans. one 120mm on side 80mm on bk. and 80mm side near gpu. also have exhaust fan directly under gpu . pc specs: mobo:asus p5ne-sli,E6600,2gb corsair xms2 800mhz,80gb maxtor daimond 20 hard drive,160gb sata on the way!!! evga 7800gt gpu.(8800gt on the way!!) | |

| ok then, is the heatsync attached properly to the motherboard? thats always a quite a likely suspect for extra heat. if it is i'd invest in a new cooler |
