Could you line it up with some grid paper? Check the lines and if it is straight then it is fine. I know this method isn't as good as using proper tools like how Quakindude does it, but it works well enough. ![]() D-Tek Fuzion, MCP655, MCR220

Lapping is always optional. You could have a brand new heatsink that right off the bat doesn't have a surface that you like. Regardless, the surfaces usually are like that for a reason (especially on higher end models) and shouldn't affect performance all that much. Lapping will pretty much always bring better results (no matter how little). But for experimentation it's always good to give it a shot and see what happens.

Lapping voids the warrenty of course. Right? Also, since the GeminII is so big and top heavy, any tips abou how to go abou lapping it? And how about lapping the CPU itself? I'm actually more interested in lapping my CPU. From the pics of any CPU lapping I have seen, the edges are almost always higher than the center. Is there any way I can mess up my CPU? No water when lapping, of course. Whats a good finishing grit of sand paper? ![]() Last edited by gvblake22; July 31st, 2007 at 21:47. Reason: consecutive posts merged

I'd have to see what the surface of YOUR heatsink looks like. ![]() D-Tek Fuzion, MCP655, MCR220

Not really. I've done it a few times but I hardly consider myself an expert at it. ![]() D-Tek Fuzion, MCP655, MCR220
