The veregs on these high-end cards do generate ALOT of heat. Enough heat to to warm up the entire PCB. So if you eliminate the heat at the vreg, that is less heat transferred through the PCB. This goes for MB aswell.

KillingField: Just making you aware of something; the thermal tape on the Swiftech sinks, lets just say be gentle, it does not ake much to knock one of the sinks off. AND since the card is inverted when in the case, gravity is working against the sinks staying on the ICs.
One of mine would not stick, kept falling off so finally I had to contact Chromerics to get some more tape, which bTW cost $36.00 for for the smallest piece sold. In the end, a nice lady at Chromerics overnighted me a 'Sample' 5x5" piece of the tape.

I've been thinking about water cooling my 7900GTX...I just haven't had the time to break everything down and do the install.

I've got several sets of the sinks, all review samples............. Had them on a few different cards so far without any problems. There's a little trick to help them stick alot better. Clean the IC's well and then warm them up with a heat gun, works great, takes a lot of pressure to get them to move at all.
I've also got some of Chromerics product samples sent to my "computer shop" just in case.............

Very nice improvements, but 65*C is not in anyway dangerous for a GPU

Nope, as a matter of fact, the new 7900 series runs cooler than the past 7800's. If' I remember righ, the throltling back temp for the 7900GT is 85c from what I've been reading

Some XTXs can handle upto 90*C some cant, IE they crash, or traces burn right off the PCB
