| Packers Fanboi | That would probably work better than coretemp for me too, lol... hmm. Someday, I'd like to use coretemp... someday... | Here are the results from my HD2900XT 512mb w\ stock cooler OCed to 800/900. HD2900XT512 Stock ATI Silver Thermal Compound was dumped on the core, all over the resistors etc. I had to use soo much Arcticlean to get it off, and there is still some I did not get off. The GPU and HSF all cleaned up: ![]() And a nice blob of IC7D on the core ![]() Stock ATI Silver Compound Ambient = 24c Idle = 56c Load = 83c IC7D Ambient = 24c Idle = 53c Load = 78c As you can see there are good drops in temps in both Idle and Load. Load was achieved by running 3dMark06 with lots of eye-candy. I love this stuff and will be using it instead of AS5. Still do have to keep a tube of Arctic Alumina Thermal adhesive on hand though.. Tomorrow I will be testing the IC7D on my dads E6550 and HD2600XT 512mb. Again I wan to say it's very generous of IC7D to be handing out free tubes, I actually got two tubes in the mail(in two separate envelopes)so I am going to test it on my Dads E6550, the NB on the P35-DS3R and the HD2600XT 512mb..Stay tuned.. | Ok so I tested IC7D on my system and now I tested my dads. His PC haw a E6550 using A stock Intel Xeon quad-core cooler, the quad coolers are bigger than the DC stock HSF. The TIM on the CPU is instels stock thermal paste. The grease on the HD2600XT is Arctic Silver Ceramique. Test results were not as good as with my system but it may be due to error on my part, I did not thoroughly clean the old TIM off. The pics look good but there may be some residual TIM left on the cores. Anyway here are the results. I will start with the GPU an HD2600XT 512mb, I put Arctic Silver Ceramique on the core.: HD2600XT 512MB 840/740 Arctic Ceramique Ambient 22c Idle 48C Load 65c ![]() GPU all cleaned up: ![]() Core all prepped with IC7D ![]() IC7D Ambient 22c Idle 47c Load 62c Quad Core Xeon 3210@3.22ghz GA-EP35C-DS3R 460FSB x 7 -- 60mm Delta fan on NB 2x1gb OCZ3-1333@1380MHZ Sapphire 4870 512mb GDDR5 2x Raptor 150 ADFD RAID 0--WD320YS RE 16mb Storage Samsung Super WriteMaster 20x DVDRW X-Fi eXtremeGamer w\Logitech Z-2300 Silverstone OP650 54A 12v Rail @50C DamgerDen Torture Rack--MC-TDX--Black Ice GTX240--MCP355 Rev 2--Swiftech MicroRes-- Tygon 3603 3/8"ID Logitech G5 - Logitech LX-710 wireless KB Vista Ultimate 64 Last edited by RangerXLT8; February 22nd, 2008 at 14:42. |

| Packers Fanboi | So, I got ic7 on my cpu, but it was kindof a rush job... so far here are my numbers: as5 idle/load: 30c/41c ic7 idle/load: 32c/42c I don't know if it's just because the ic7 hasnt broken in it, but I think it's more likely my cables are just really messy again from half tearing it apart to use parts while putting together a friends build, or just because it wasn't a good application. (could also be the use of push pins for my mounting system, might not be getting enough pressure, I guess). I'll get pics once it breaks in and or I reseat the heatsink. EDIT: I think it is breaking in already, I just closed orthos, let it sit for a minute, and fired it back up, and it only went up to 40/41 c... so it's looking good, i think. EDIT #2: Well, it sat for a few hours, and I fired it up again, othos and all... getting idles of ~31c and a load of ~41c.... So something is funny to me, since under load it's doing just as good as as5, even though it's idling a little warmer than it had been... but I'll take a smaller delta T anyday, lol. Time for some more breaking in, and then hopefully some pictures! EDIT #3: Hmm, still idling at 32 and going under load at 42... but my northbridge temp seems to be a bit higher too, so I dunno what's goin on... when I install my new gpu cooler I'll try and sort out the cables, make sure the airflow didnt get messed up or something. well, crap, You know my temps are higher? My 200mm fan isnt even spinning. Grrrr. Hmmm, I looked, and both my top 200mm fan and my back 120mm fan weren't plugged in, silly me, so in that light, the comparable temps between as5 and ic7 look really well towards ic7... but now that I plugged in my fans, Im' still getting an even 42c under load... but my ambient looks like it's a degree higher too... so yeah. Before: (ambient 25c, idle ~30c, load ~41c) ![]() After: (ambient 26c, idle ~31c c, load ~42c) ![]() Overall, I just don't know about this, as to whether it's better than as5 or not. So far, it seems to be almost identical.... but given that it should last alot longer than as5, it's getting my thumbs up. I'll update again once I install my new gpu cooler, and also once I get my friend to download speedfan or something (since I used some ic7 on his new build). e6300@3.33ghz|Asus P5k-e WiFi| 4gb OCZ ReaperX|2x 3870's|1.3tb storage space|MSI tv tuner. |

| I'm Diggin it! | Looks like there's enough pictures to clearly illustrate the process, so I'll forgo those here. I used a pea-sized amount as indicated on IC's website right in the middle of the CPU. I used Arctic Silvers 2-part cleaning compound in between solutions. Spec's: Q6600 @ 2.86GHz, 1.34V ThermalTake Tribe VX external water-cooling In various discussions over vertical cooling apparatuses mounting techniques, and how the pressure of the mounting can impact performance, I thought this would be of interest to the thread. This Tribe VX uses an "H" mounting bar over the water block which places equal pressure on all four corners of the block. Assuming you tighten the thumb nuts equally of course. If anyone is interested in seeing the actual water block mount, just give the word and I'll post a picture. Yes, the Tribe VX cooler is a very basic device geared towards the plug and play crowd. It isn't intended for the water cooling hard core types and the only reason I use it is for the wow/bling factor. Not only that, for what it is, it cools pretty good. The Tribe VX isn't sold in the United States though. This was given to me by someone who won it in a HardwareLogic raffle. I used CoreTemp v096.1 to monitor temps and Prime95 v25.5 to load the CPU. Idle temps taken after one hour. Prime was run for at least two hours before recording the temps. Temps are the average of the four cores. Arctic Silver 5: Room - 21°C Idle - 36°C Loaded - 48°C Arctic Cooling MX-2: Room - 21°C Idle - 35°C Load - 47.5°C IC7: Room - 22°C Idle - 35°C Load - 46°C Once you factor in the one degree C higher room temp for the test between MX-2 and IC7, you'll see that IC7 dropped temps by 2.5°C over the MX-2 paste. I'm impressed and happy with the results. Thank you very much for your sample and I'll be using the IC7 product in the future. Interestingly enough, running the Folding@Home SMP client is raising my CPU temps by a little over 2°C than what Prime did. | T-Rex | Opteron 165 @ 2.7Ghz on Thermaltake Big Typhoon lapped. Temperature monitored using Core Temp. Core temperature sensor is 4 to 5 degrees under real temp. Taking highest core temperature. Load testing using Orthos small FFT. Thermal paste cleaned using ArctiClean. Room temp: 23C AS5, applied in January 2008. Idle: 22-23C (real ~27-28C) Load: 49C (real ~54C) ICD7, applied less than 5 minutes ago. Idle: 18-19 (real ~23-24C) Load: 46C (real ~51C) I got a new favorite TIM. :) |
