Thanks HL and Corsair!

Default Application Notes

Application Notes - From all the forum testing on application and application sizes, a pea sized amount on center was pretty universally decided as the optimal amount on all forums. Thanks to all for their efforts, much appreciated.

Besides just knowing the amount I like to know why. I believe I have most of that figured out with some additional testing on my own. Check out my results

got a new result for ya on a small die CPU:

Socket A, Athlon XP-M 2600+ Barton, stock speed 2.0GHz, actual 1992MHz. XP-M = Mobile low watt
version of standard Athlon XP, overall looks the same. Used with a Thermaltake Volcano7 cooler.
Tested on a Biostar M7VIG400Pro motherboard and temps tested using Speedfan.

Room ambient temp 74-76ºF, each temp checked after it ran idle for 30+ minutes and then under
100% load for at least an hour. Second and third test ran 3 times to make sure there was no anomalous
readings.

First test: old AS5 that had not been touched in at least a year or two
idle: 29ºC
load: 58ºC

Second test: reapplied AS5 on 7/1/08 and let cure, temps taken earlier today
idle: 29ºC
load: 56ºC

Third test: fresh application of ICD7, about the size of a small grain of rice (any more and it
spills out onto the nearby contacts and exposed chips around the CPU)...
idle: 28ºCload: 46ºC

That is a 10-12ºC drop in temps under load.

I did all my development on a 1cm die. The small area has a higher watt density so that temp deltas between compounds essentially double. When doing serious testing this filters out much of the variable noise for a more accurate temp reading.

Thanks for posting the data(?) much appreciated. We are updating our web site with all the accumulated data from all the forums, great stuff, thanks again to all for their efforts

I added The content from our testing to our web site and most is data supplied from you guys Thanks again for all the effort.

Be a little forgiving on the design front as I am at the bottom of the learning curve when it come to HTML and web design and once I get the content and links squared away I will turn it over to a professional to smooth it out.

I will be doing some more forum beta testing and am mulling over some different tests I need done to fully round things out. In any event thanks again.

That is an easy site to use. Good to see someone use real tests on their products. Keep up the good work, I'll be using D7 from now on.

I'm using ICD7 for everything, whether it's that old CPU with no IHS or video cards.

However, Canadians really need ICD7 at ncix.com :P
