Yeah... I really like this stuff. Only complaint I have is that it's hard to clean. but I've also noticed that it holds up really well if you're reseating the heatsink, (my friend reseated his heatsink without any cleaning or new compound, and didn't have any effect on the performance, for example.).

That's interesting, I didn't think about it. I'm used to cleaning a heatsink and CPU each time I reseat it, each time re-applying thermal paste. Possible saving at the expense a minimal performance drop?

Well so far the pressure film sample group matches roughly the larger overall 127 sample group as far as spread of positive vs negative results and having most on the negative group fall under 45 psi is significant and having a rational explanation for the one that does not makes a huge difference.

Much appreciation to those that took the time to test, I know a lot of work was involved and you guys did a bang up job.

I Have not updated the latest film data here as HL has a different size requirement for the pic size and I will try to get that done tomorrow, if you have an interest the latest data can be found on xtremesystems

Broad contact & high force for the Positive results- Kind of what you guys recommend as a first salvo trouble shooting temp problems in the forums.

Lap and tighten down/re-seat the sink

Yeah... I might have to lap my heatsink when I get back from vacation. It gets pretty good temps... but the contact pattern kinda sucks (and it's the cpu for sure... the stock heatsink produces almost the same results.)

So what would you say would be an ideal (and reachable haha) pressure to get the most out of the ICD7?

average of all users for IC diamond was -3 C 20% 0f those saw no result or higher numbers. The effort here is to resolve that 20% and bring up the averages.

from the initial data it looks like pressure over 45 psi is a good start and when combined with good contact all get that result. It looks like the pressure film data is following the larger forum samples of 127 users as far as the break out result no result pattern with 80% or so seeing positive result and approx. 20% seeing a zero or negative result.

From a trouble shooting point of view it is nice to be able to point people in a direction to solve a problem and have the data to back it up.

Most of you guys know this intuitively when trouble shooting temp. problems, first recommendation is usually to tighten or remount the sink and lap the sink. There is a 7-8 C swing on the result comparison above the difference between poor performer and a good one, good contact, good pressure.

Occam's razor - The simplest explanation is almost always the right answer.

I have not separated the group data but out of the 5 groups tested this one had the highest average so my guess is you guys here at HL had the best contact and the best pressures for the 3.84 C best average improvement : Congrats on a great job.
