| T-Rex | OK I will be conducting the pressure test in a few, I finally got some time for myself to do it. =) How long do you guys think I should wait for my CPU to be at room temp? It's currently under F@H SMP folding. |

Another thing you could try is to remove the processor from the motherboard and cover the IHS in some kind of substance that is colorful and veryfluid, but not harmful (maybe ketchup or something?) and then set a piece of glass on top of it. Maybe even press down slightly on the glass and then look at the distribution pattern of the substance underneath. Wherever you can see the metal top of the IHS is where it is level and wherever the liquid is only visible is where it is concave. Last edited by gvblake22; April 29th, 2008 at 16:38.

| T-Rex | Man, just did the test on my rig. Holy crap I hate screwing the Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme when the motherboard is in a case. I've cut my hands several times on the heatsink trying to screw it, and ended up messing my first pressure test because the sink twisted. @__@ Second one was good though. =D I will try to pressure test my Opty 165 tomorrow if I get the time and then I can send back the prints. |

| I sent out the first round of film for digital mapping - and I will email your results monday or tuesday only 9 went out this week. I did talk to the rep about the part of the film that shows voids.- The white or unexposed portions "voids" are a go-no go type of situation on the pressure side and no indicator of defects. Voids could be .0001 or 10 miles deep as far as the film reading is concerned. Just something to be aware of. |

The go/No-go type compression is also worth questioning. As you state, the cup is relative and could be totally in tolerance in which the TIM is designed to fill. And Dykom should do the same thing as the paper. It's blue machining marker fluid. It dries quick, so you gotta be quick to get a mark set on paper. | T-Rex | I will try to send my 2 results tomorrow. I was able to do my Opteron 165 the other day, and damn I really need to find a way to tighten my Thermaltake Big Typhoon more! It's nowhere as tight as my Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme on my main rig, but it still surprises me considering I always had very good results with the TT Big Typhoon nonetheless. Edit: I don't know if anyone else noticed this, but when I removed my TT Big Typhoon the ICD7 had a very distinctive smell. Is this normal? I noticed the same smell too when I checked under my X1900XT but I didn't bother with it at first, till I smell just a while ago my TT Big Typhoon and realizing it was the ICD7. My Thermalright Ultra-120 Ex didn't have the smell, or at least it wasn't "as strong". And no, it's not crazy strong or anything, I was just wondering. :P Last edited by polobunny; May 6th, 2008 at 18:02. |

The digital image part will at least give the contact area a pressure distribution and an average psi that should correlate to performance or may not, we will have to see how they come out. There are going to be more lapping results as we go several other forums are doing this and a few are doing a lap test. I was never big on lapping but the contact tests raised my interest in it as it might be very effective. But again we shall see and hopefully result will be clear enough to make a conclusion one way or another, we may find it does not make a diff in any of it.:smokin:
