I am beginning to to think that that the pump out + bake out combination is what leads to the pastes actually drying out, effectively expelling or /and/ plus evaporating any oils or liquids leaving just the dried base bulk material. The accelerated Bake out I have been doing creates a number of voids in some the pastes that increase in size to a point sometimes where almost half of what would be the die area no longer in contact. This may be the point of failure rather than a strict dry out as long as you have a decent contact without the voids performance may not be much affected. The Zalman supergrease appears to have a a fairly quick drying liquid. On sink it dries in a day or so and seems to maintain performance after all liquid has been evaporated. It is a kind of a dry out with intent. You can not pump a solid which is kind of what we try to do on a middle ground with ICD7. Because it dries out so quickly there is little or no void generation so as long as the contact remains undisturbed you maintain performance. I actually think it is a quite clever approach, but bump the sink or rotate it a little and your performance will drop drastically. I had another version of ICD7 with higher bulk loading that had double the performance, problem with it was most users would have had conniption fits trying to apply it. A Zalman kind of approach with a little tweaking might work with new version of ICD7 although doubling performance at this point would only net about 1/2 C as these greases get closer to Zero there is just not a lot of room left for big improvements. Quakindude how old were the mounts when you pulled them and how much were you stressing your system? | |

| We take both criticism and positive comments very positively | Zalman and a few of the others that have more of a "liquidy" texture to them tend to dry out....almost a talc feeling to them. I have a couple special follow up projects I'm working on. i can't say much right now, as I'm busy with a couple other reviews.....but over the next couple of weeks we'll be touching on this issue again. I would be interested in your test results and opinions there as I do not have much data on those type products. | |

| ICD7 Oringinal testers I need a sub-test Would you guys be interested in doing a test that tells you how much heat sink pressure you are actually applying? How good your last lapping effort was? I bought some of this stuff Heat Sink - Surface Pressure Distribution and Magnitude It's a pressure sensitive film. It'll show your PSI of your mount along with a distribution of pressure. They are going to send me a digital color chart which we can post or email out and participants can scan a picture, take a picture of their results for comparison. Alternatively, and I would probably do this if I get enough people, is send the samples back to the company and get an in depth digital analysis of each test(Not quite ready to spring for the full Monty test equipment- $12,000) But the company analysis is quite reasonable if the qty is large enough. I am considering adding this along with each tube of ICD7 for sale. I am revisiting some of the other forum beta test giveaways to get a full cross section. Maybe I can put a Library of images with corresponding results on our website so people can take a test on their own later then log on to compare to see what most closely matches their own test result. What I would like, is of those that have posted results (good bad or indifferent) to run another test along with another free tube of ICD7 and then a quick pressure test. If you have a interest, post on this forum your interest then send me an email to innovationcooling@att.net. To qualify 1. Reference the forum and that you posted your interest in the forum along with your alias 2. were a participant of the initial giveaway and posted a result 3. Include your mailing address in a format that I can cut and paste |

| Silence..Or I kill you! | Yep, I would be more that happy to do the pressure test. In fact I have 2 Heat sinks that I would test with, a Thermaltake V1, and an Asus Silent Knight II ![]() Email sent Diamond!!! Last edited by stinger608; April 7th, 2008 at 17:58. |

| oh noes | I'd definitely be into this, especially since I think my heatsink is on the lower side of the scale pressure wise.... I'll get the email off asap!
