| Colonel Calamity | it all depends on your board and CPU... on my systems, none of them have any problems with any of the temperature programs except my M7VIG board. With speedfan, it still reads the CPU temp properly but everything else is messed up. Otherwise it doesn't matter what program I use on my Core2 system they read properly and reliably across any given program. CoreTemp, Speedfan, RealTemp, TAT, Everet... ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! My opinions are my own and not representative of this site or its members. |

| T-Rex | Haha I wonder what that "system" sensor is monitoring. :P It seems to be hard to find a reliable core & CPU temperature monitoring application lately, with all the new cores Intel churns out and the very little information they give away (if any!). I guess you're better off not being bothered about it if your system is stock and in a decent environment. If it's overclocked then you have to lurk around, read a bunch of stuff, go slowly and don't go crazy. :P |

| HL's Technomancer | I tend to look at the temps reported in the BIOS during overclocking, and add about about 15 degrees to the idle result for an estimation on load temps for my Core 2, for my Athlon I add 20. Seems to work right within the range the software gives, if the idle temp is report as 50+ I back off the voltages. Of course this is redneck monitoring, you'd be much better off using an IR probe then anything else. |

![]() It would probably be better, but who wants to spend so much only to know temperatures. :P

Software based programs like speed fan rely on their ability to not just read from the SMBus but also their ability to correctly identify the chip on the motherboard that is reading from "probe" devices. Unless the software routine can get that right and has the data for that chip the readings will be erroneous. The problem is that not long ago only several chips were used by motherboard manufacturers to get temperatures and control fan speeds etc. on the motherboard. The number has grown considerably making necessary constant updates to the software. Ron

| The Real Final Word | As many have seen, this TIM really shines through under a load!!!! ![]() Artic Silver: Idle=31-33C Load=42-45C IC7: Idle=28-31C Load=35-37C!!!! That is a 5C degree drop in temps at the narrowest point!!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And this is after running the TIM for over 2 weeks now ![]() ![]() ![]() Awesome thermal compound IC Diamond ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Oh yea, this is running an Asus M2N32 SLI Deluxe Wireless AMD 5200 OC'd at 10% Asus Silent Knight II 2GB Corsair XMS2 Last edited by stinger608; March 19th, 2008 at 16:14. |
