No gud. Describe your cooling situation.
How long has it been since you installed the CPU? Bad TIM application? Fan not on? Plastic still on the heatsink base? Something is definitely wrong.

Shut down my F@H SMP and temps began dropping immediately.

Just a few minutes later and here we are - whew!

Stock CPU cooler (uh, time to upgrade?). Air cooled case. Installed November '07 - haven't reapplied since. Don't believe plastic is still on (funny, but that DID happen with 8800GTX!) and I don't know exactly what you mean by TIM application (google no help). Looks like I'll be cracking open the case and reapplying the Arctic Silver tomorrow! Wonder if running to BB for a better cooler is warranted?

EDIT: I think I used the "one line" method 'cause that was what Intel recommended. Saw a recommendation to spread it out in a very thin layer using a finger in a plastic baggie. Think I probably did NOT put enough TP on at install.

Those temps are within normal range. I wouldn't worry, unless you would like see lower numbers, although this is nowhere necessary for normal operation. If you plan on overclocking a third party cooling solution could be interesting.

I idle at 39 C to 42 C on my four cores; 3.02 @ 1.30 Vcore.

I guess Folding @ Home on the CPU is pretty stressful. Thinking about OC'ing. Any suggestions for water cooling solutions?

Is there a reason why you want to go water cooling rather than simply stepping up to a better (and less expensive) air CPU cooler?

And yes, F@H SMP is pretty stressful.

I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal.

No, no particular reason. Simple is easier, and certainly just upgrading the stock cooler ought to make a reasonable improvement. Seems a lot of folks like the Zalman coolers.
