Easy big guy, he wasn't directing that comment as derogatory toward you in particular. We all understand people come here to learn and converse about computers and technology. No one can claim to know it all, so please don't think we are ragging on you.

Pb hey man, I wasn't trying to tear you down. I dont thnk you are inept, if you were inept you wouldnt be here trying to get info. I was just giving you some perspective. Learn from those of us that know, I have spent alot of money fixing mistakes that I thought that I could do without proper knowledge.
Have a nice day,

Ok Ok my fault. Just I hate when someone tells me I can't do something. Maybe I'm stubborn, not stupid . I know everything in this world is about learning and experiencing and I am all for that.

Sorry if I made anyone feel edgy about my attitude. I grew up around judging and criticizing and it gets me so annoyed. And I wrote a thread in the Hl newegg thing about viriginia tech because you guys mentioned the anarchist book. I just wanted to say how i felt about that because what I said in the thread was very personal to me which I wanted to share with you guys but it got deleted. I was only trying to be part of the conversation and wanted to hear your input.

Let me explain something to you guys. I signed up to a forum for the very first time in my LIFE on hardwarelogic.com 2 months ago. All of these threads, posts, messages, are very new to me and I like it a lot. So if I seem a little farfetch'd or eccentric with this site it's because I don't really know what I am supposed to do in the correct manner. I see you guys having off topic conversations sometimes so I decided to do it myself and I get knocked on it HARD for doing it. I just thought it was straight up bs because I'm the new comer.

No worries Pbirmingham1988. Sometimes posts get deleted in order to keep threads on topic or to prevent things from getting out of control (like political discussions and the like) or to keep illegal topics/content off the site.

Off topic conversations are allowed in the Members Lounge, but we still try to keep each specific thread on the topic it was started for. But enough of that, how about your fans and/or fan controller?

Ok,

Buy a second case - a cheapy. Not simply cheap because you might mess it up, but cheap because modders often get paralyzed when faced with something already really nice - trust me - I'm not immune to this even. If you do mess it up, keep it around to practice on and scavenge parts from (like drive bays).

Cutting holes is best done with a hole saw and drill IMO - with a good deal of practice. Its expensive, but after about your 3rd hole, they will be perfect (expensive because the saws are generally for wood and get killed after one or two holes). Or you could use a dremel - this takes practice as well.

Handy person or no - it takes practice. Best to make a totally new case you can put your system in, than have it be down for a month while your working.

PS - don't mod a full case - thats just asking for it.

Just IMO.

Ok Ok lol thanks a lot guys. About the cutting a hole, I just wanted to do 1 on the roof of my case for an extra fan.. That's all lol, but I guess you're right. I should practice first before doing anything to the extreme.

I still haven't opened up my case to do any of the new transformation yet. I'm actually kinda scared lol I might do it in a few minutes though. From what you guys are telling me I don't think I need a fan controller since the arctic 12's are already quiet. Ill be back with more info on the situation.

I've been gone all day taking care of business and am just now getting caught up on this thread.

PB, don't be so easily upset.....you have some of the best people I've ever known trying to help you. there is a lot of knowledge, and goodwill here......and no one means you any disrespect......you won't find that here.
I think the main thing people are trying to stress is patience. Its obvious you found a great hobby, and are really excited. no one wants to see you make mistakes (we all make them), because as soon as you ruin something expensive (and we all do sometime) you will end up disappointed.
When it comes to modding, develop a good plan, take your time, and practice on non-essential things....pieces of wood, pieces of metal, etc.......don't just jump right in and start cutting the case holding your system....thats a reciipe for disaster.
Listen to people like gvblake, Captain Crunch, and Onebxr....who have modding experience and use the common tools of the trade. You might also check out Lokie's site, DragonModz, a modding site....

I use Bi Metal hole saws. They are good for Aluminum, Steel and Plexiglas. 120mm holes are a little tricky with the hole saw. You have to cut very, very slow and keep even pressure on the saw so your hole doesn't warp. A trick I learned was to get a hole saw just a little smaller then the fan I am using then use a dremel to smooth out the edges and make the hole the perfect size. Cutting holes calls for a lot of patience and a steady hand. Cutting fan holes are a little more forgiving then cutting windows, because if you make a small mistake (Hole a tad to big for example) you can cover it with a fan grill.

I don't know what other guys do but when I cut a window I use a jig saw. Make sure to use a metal blade, because if you don't you will burn right through a wood blade. Then again use a dremel to smooth and even the edges. Blake had the great idea of using car door trim to cover the edges of the window hole. This covers any uneven edges and gives your window a nice smooth look. I prefer to use rivets to install a window but others use double stick tape, screws, or seals.

Manta makes a great point. Go out and spend $20 on a case and cut the hell out of it. Nothing worse then screwing up a $200 case. Once you learn how to cut holes, feel free to turn yourself loose on the case of your dreams. By full case I assume you mean Full Tower Manta? I prefer to mod a full tower over a mid tower. More room to work with.

Ahh I need to stop thinking about modding and start thinking about how Im going to put these fans in. The arctic 12s have 3 molex connectors and the instructions say to connect it to the mainboard. How do I do this?? I thought these fans connected to the PSU!!!??? Im putting my pc all together right now and once I opened the arctic 12 package I didnt see that big white connector. I see a small centimeter with 3 holes. How am I supposed to connect this!?

I don't typically connect 120mm fans to the motherboard, so go to your local electronics store and pick up a pair of 3pin to4pin adapters, should cost you $2 or so.
