The problem is, if the die on the mobo or chip is not performing correctly, it will not matter what program you use, it will give a faulty reading!

Your best bet would be some kind of a thermal hardware that has the senser built in!

I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal.

Skeptical is not nearly enough. Make no mistake, outside of living in Siberia, those reported temps are 110% inaccurate. Let's not mislead him to believe otherwise, or set up expectations of others reading and considering a Core 2 Duo processor that they too can have unrealistic load temps on stock air cooling w/ the Core 2 architecture. It's just not going to happen...

Outside of Core Temp and his motherboard's utility, he can try TAT, but if they're all reporting abnormal temperatures, then it could be a BIOS quirk with that new processor. Is he running the latest BIOS version for that motherboard?

You are 100% SPOT-ON there One4yu2C! There is no reason that anyone should be getting anything close to 21*C load temp on a c2d, short of having a near freezing room/ambient temp. Anything even slightly insinuating this temp could be accurate is essentially irresponsible.

My reasoning was that my E6600 at idle has been as low at 18c when the room was really cold and the HS reading has been as low as 26c when under full load.

Now this is with a Thermaltake VX with fan at max, in a Nine Hundred case with fans at max and the room temp was around 20c.

There fore I am asking about the conditions with which this claim is made. For example some programs will claim to load up your system but not generate much heat while overs such as ITAT generate a ton.

His original post did not give enough info for anyone to believe or disbleieve what he posted directly. What it did do is provide some room for serious doubt and the need for more information to show if his testing was flawed, the sensor is falwed or what exactly was taking place.

To make a blanket that is not possible statement is just plain wrong. I wait until I have enough info to maker a serious judgement and in that post there was no where near enough info.

Stock air cooling + 19C-21C/load = sufficient info to disbelieve and reject numbers (bum sensor, wrong sensor, BIOS needs updated, processor isn't really under load, etc), IMO. And surprise surprise, a followup post confirms it...

And on that note, this thread's getting a lock before more faulty info/reasoning gets posted. To the original poster, if your friend would like help getting the sensor to correctly report the true temps, feel free to open a new post requesting advice.
