Default Re: The best way to apply TIM..

If mine was easy to take apart and put together I would write one but as is I need to loosen the PSU, slide it back part way to reach the locking pin, then remove the whole mobo just to get everything locked down again tight...

Thanks HL and Corsair!

Muahaha... yes, I spread it out. At least with the Pentium D I have sitting here. I used a drop one time and then spread the other. Spread gave cooler temps so I go with spread. But in the end, is the dot, line or spread the same after you depress the heatsink? When you lift the heatsink off the CPU does the paste look the same? As Capper said, It would be a good article ;)

I use a loaded grease gun and firmly believe the bigger the blob the better the job!

OK, I am still doing the rice grain method centered. I am also big on through cleaning even with new stuff. I swab it with isopropanol and make sure the surface is dust and lint free. That method has always worked well for me.

I agree with the cleaning, when I put on the Big Typhoon I used Artic Silver cleaner to clean the CPU and the new heatsink and then used the bead mthod from the instructions for Ceramique.
