I think there's more room for a cooler than imagined. Above the board I/O section is another 92mm before getting to the PSU's bottom (80mm fans, 6mm of metal both sides). That's about 3-3/4 inches.

A low profile Zalman CNPS8000 is 63mm above the CPU's top. With half the space avalable (50mm) in the Silverstone SGO1, there's still just enough room.

You'll have twice the gap with a low profile I believe, so a low profile may not be needed. I'd get the board installed with a power supply installed to see what you actually have to work with.

According to a user of at the NCIX forums, you can get a CPU cooler that is 100mm tall inside the Lanbox...
Quote:
For anyone wanting to know the CPU cooler/fan height clearance for the Lanbox lite, it's 100mm.
With the Scythe Ninja Mini measuring 115mm high, it's probably not going to work. The Thermalright SI-128 SE measures 91.5mm high without a fan. So unless you can fit a fan between its base and fins, you would have to run it passively and rely on the air movement of the PSU fan (not recommended unless you have a very low power CPU). Not sure if you can find it in the UK, but the SilenX IXC-120C or Thermaltake MaxOrb both look decent. Any of the similar coolers from Zalman would also do.

Bokra is considering a different case though:
A-Plus CS-Blockbuster BAW - Black Window Cube - No Psu - XCASE No1 For pc computer cases, atx cases & rackmount cases

If you cut that piece of metal out above the processor area, then you could get away with more but that would sacrifice the structural integrity of the case...

And lord knows sacrificing the structural integrity of the case could open a potentially devastating, galaxy eating black hole!

:| could it? lol and i think for structural purposes i am going with the thermaltake lanbox lite. Has anyone placed a quad core in a sff case like the thermaltake b4?

People do it all the time into cases with half as much headroom as what is in the Lanbox, they just have to use really high-powered fans that spin really fast and are really loud (rackmount servers). I'm sure you could do it, but the faster you want the processor to run, the faster you're going to have to spin the fan to keep it cool. Intel bundles what they feel is suitable cooling for a quad core with their processors and their heatsink would definitely fit in the case. You wouldn't have much (if any) room for overclocking and wouldn't have very low temperatures, but it is at least warrantied against failure by Intel so if it does go bad at stock speeds, then you could get a replacement.

You're trying to get the best of both worlds and instead of doing one thing very well (being small in size, low in noise or fast in performance) you are trying to do both and each will only come out just OK in the end (not great). Either you have a really small case with low noise and low performance, or have a larger case with low noise and high performance; getting both becomes increasingly difficult, especially when you want to keep noise to a minimum. You have to decide if you want to sacrifice size, noise, or performance (and how much).

I think it's manageable to have something nice as Blake says. If you can fit a decent heatsink in there you shouldn't have a problem. I'm myself not a big fan of stock heatsinks.

Ive had a bad experience with intel stock coolers... namely a p4 failing countless times under stress then a core 2 giving my bro problems so im all about coolness and silence (near enough) when i build.

Well then I suggest you look into a more energy efficient processor like the 45nm dual cores from Intel or the 45W dual cores from AMD. They still offer very good performance compared to quad cores in most typical situations, so it's definitely not a bad choice. In fact, I usually find myself recommending a dual core over quad core right now anyway...
