What is the native resolution of your monitor that you play games on? Do you plan on upgrading to a larger monitor during the lifespan of this video card? Do you prefer to game with image enhancements like Antialiasing and Anisotropic Filtering?

My desktop screen res is @ 1280 x 1024 but depending on the game I play it goes down from there.
Examples:
CoH: 1024 x 768
BF2142: 1024 x 768
CnC Generals Zero Hour: 1600 x 1200
CSS: The one that has the same width as the (lcd) option.
etc etc. Just whatever runs the best and looks the best ;)

You will be able to play your games at 1280 x 1024 with that card.

I personally prefer to play games at 1680X1024, but thats my monitors native Res.

They consume a fair amount of power and do get pretty hot. As a result, those stock coolers are notorious for being obnoxiously loud.

Lucky for me I've realized that I don't need silence in my case (yay Logitec z4-i speakers) and I'm doing what I can to increase the cooling power of my case. (buying a PCI-fan blower and mounting as many fans on the back of my case as possible)

I have the Sapphire X1600Pro 512MB pci-e and all the X1xxx cards run hot. Mine is around 58C idle and 80+ full load. I would assume the X1950 also runs hot.

With the Sapphire card I have, I have never had noise problems, can't even hear the fan. ATITool reports the fan at <35% speed, and only if I raise it to 100% manually, I can hear the fan.
