Default Re: Video card memory

I suggest you go to the EVGA forums and post your experience there. That is highly unusual for EVGA to muck something up like that. My experiences with them have been outstanding to say the least. I have, for the last two years, utilized EVGA as my manufacturer of choice. When I needed a mobo, EVGA. Video card, EVGA.

There's many in the industry that could learn a thing or two from EVGA's customer service model IMHO. Also, EVGA is very active on their forums. Direct PM's and posts from an EVGA representative is the norm rather than the exception.

Paul is spot on with his explanation about TurboCache and Stormcrow is correct about there being no memory physically on the GPU, it's arranged around the GPU on the card.

My girlfriend has an ATI Radeon X1600 Pro with only 128MB onboard memory, but it can use up to 512MB with system memory. It plays your average game of yester-year all right, but trying to throw in another application in the background (like Skype) doesn't play nice and I think it's due to the video card eating up all the system RAM.
