you see, DX 10 only works for windows vista. DX10 is incompatible with windows xp (go figure). However, a variant of DX9 will be created shortly, so that windows xp can run those games. It is codenamed DX9L.

As far as i know, its not out yet.

DX9L is not out yet and has yet to be confirmed. In my opinion, it just doesn't make sense for Microsoft to release a new OS, with it's most prominent feature being it's support for DirectX 10 and then release another Direct X (9L) for those with XP. They would lose alot of sales.

Either way, I don't think Direct X 10 would be the same as DirectX 9L. Reason being is, how would a dx9 capable card be able to render the same thing as a DX10 card with DX9L? If it was possible, wouldn't that eliminate the whole point of having dx10? or a dx10 card?

In fact, this article was found on the Inquirer:
DirectX 9.0 L works on Vista only

heck even the budget line of cards look pretty powerful (when you think current budget cards have a total of around 12-16 render engines I.E pixel pipelines, ROP's and TMU's)

i wonder what will be available when i get home...
