Indeed. Leadhead is correct. GDDR memory technologies are commonly used on graphics cards while DDR is used on system memory.

GDDR3 is used on current videocards, and is built upon the GDDR2 memory. The same is with the GDDR4 technologies. There aren't any new revolutions or mind blowing changes with GDDR4 but simply special tweaks to boost speeds.

The main goal of GDDR-4 is to push clock frequencies towards 1.4 GHZ. Remember that GDDR-3 can achieve 1 GHZ speeds.

I Like Watercooling. D-Tek Fuzion, MCP655, MCR220

Excuse me?
1.1ns GDDR3= 1.8ghz
1.2ns GDDR3 = 1.6ghz

are those effective speeds that you listed? I meant that GDDR4 is trying to standardize 1.4 ghz mem frequencies (2.8 effective). GDDR3 can achieve 1.0 ghz (2 effective).

...by 1Ghz, he means 2GHz efective, high end GDDR4 should hit 3.6GHz efective
