I'm thinking there won't be any real 99XX series. 9800 on 55nm tech then phase out for 9 series seems to be the roadmap.

The 9800GTX on a 55nm is going out soon. Higher clocks, so better perf.

Edit: S_I, the GTX280 doesn't outperform a 9800GX2. A 9800GX2 still wins performance and price wise, unless I've missed an important review. :S
Edit 2: It seems you are right. I guess I was tired when I read about the GTX280. However, even at 1920x1200 the 9800GX2 holds very close to the GTX280, making the 9800GX2 still the best bang for the buck.

right. it was kinda inferred that the 9800gx2 is the better value since it trades top spot with the gtx280 (which costs $100-$200 more than the 9800gx2) i believe once nvidia gets the drivers hammered out, the GTX280 will eventually surpass the 9800gx2.

There is too much "documentation" and hubub about nVidia's 99xx series videocards for there not to be one. I can't imagine all the buildup and there being no hammerfall, unless nVidia is planning on pulling some sleight of hand trickery.

Truth be told, if you had an Nvidia card you could try the 177.35 hacked drivers. They are really fast, they give a nice boost even on my 8800GT. I'm not sure it's driver limited. It looks a lot as if Nvidia was caught a bit with no new technolgy and they're just churning higher clocked or die shrinks of their current products. GTX280 is a new architecture, but nothing crazy if you look at G80 and then G92. Seems they're getting better on higher resolutions though, so that's a good thing.

I'm still not expecting a 99XX series. I'm almost certain they will dump it as 9800GTX+ and the likes. Or maybe 9850GTX not to explode their naming scheme too much. :P
