Thx everyone. I guess I'll do a "wait an see" for the R600 => X2800 series and see how they stack up to the 8800s. Hopefully they release before mid May.

Cheapo OC Comp => ~600USD:
E4300 @ 3.2GHz
Asus P5N-E-SLI
2GB OCZ ddr2-6400 Plat. Rev 2
ATI X800XL
Sound Blaster Audigy 5.1

I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal.

Possibly, but late May to early June is looking more realistic.

I'll have to agree with One4. He is spot on as usual. The 8800GTS 640 I have overclocks very well. Surprisingly aggressive overclocks are quite possible with the stock clocked 8800GTS 640 and good case airflow.

Anytime I can move memory over 200Mhz and the GPU right at 100Mhz, I'm impressed as hell. And performance increases were exceptional, although really not needed due the cards pure muscle in DX9 games.

Now if the R600 comes out with the steroidal number of stream processors that pre-release commentary is calling for, the R600 could end up spanking the hell out of the 8800 series of cards. However, you do need to ask yourself if you really want to spend that kind of upgrade money on the ATI card, many users will require a new PSU to supply the power for that beast, and as with the 8800 series, no one knows how either camp will perform in DX10 games until we can walk into Wally World and buy one.
